Absolutely. If this is your biological son, you definitely have the right to be involved in all decisions regarding your child, from medical decisions to where he goes to school. Sadly, many former wives sell the ex-husband on the idea that the child is better off without all the bickering and without the father in his life. Nothing could be further from the truth. Your son needs you more if you and his mother are divorced. You don't need to bicker or argue over these things. Just calmly assert your rights, and if your ex denies you your rights, get a lawyer to contact her. That may be all it takes. If you can't afford a lawyer, go to her house to talk with her, and if she refuses to grant you access to your child, call the police. Let them handle the dispute. Don't get angry - remember that the law is on your side, and it's much more in your favor to remain calm and let her be the crazy one. If you are the stepfather, you have no built-in rights, however, depending on how long you were involved with the boy, a court may award you some rights if it sees that this would be in the best interest of the child.
