Bald Eagles are on the top of the food chain. Top predators, if you will. This means that they have no predators (some people classify humans as a known predator though). Bald Eagles diet's consist mainly of fish. Although they will also eat other small game, including other birds. Bald Eagles are also Carrion eaters, which means they will eat animals/meat that is already dead (like scavengers).
So, if you were to construct a Bald Eagle food chain, the Eagle would be at the top, then small game, such as rabbits, birds, and fish, then insects and plants. Of course you could add more, that's just a rough example... Hope that helps.
If Bald Eagles were to go extinct, the food chain of the North Eastern US would be affected moderately, for there are many other Birds of Prey (or "raptors") in the area, as well as the rest of the US and some parts of Canada, where these eagles reside. These eagles do play a very important roll in human culture, as well as the main balance of the North Eastern US.
