For example, if one has been chatting with one's neighbours and for whatever reason either party wants to terminate the conversation, one may say "It has been nice chatting with you, but I really must leave you now because I have left something on the stove that might boil over." Alternatively, they may have said "Oh, is that the time? I have to run now - my children will be home from school soon."
