Offline Project Management Software: Such as MS Project, Primavera, etc... These tools are being used by everyone in order to plan the project, create the proper charts, assign tasks and resources. The main drawback with these applications is the communication aspect (since they are desktop applications, the PM has to make an extra effort in order to communicate the plans to the stakeholders and the team members).

Online Project Management Software: They are similar to desktop applications, except that they are hosted online.
