Also, to add to the list is nutrients diffusing through the blood vessel lining, from the blood stream and into cells where it is required. Sometimes, these nutrients require transmembrane proteins, which change shape to allow the nutrients through, to enter the cell.

Diffusion occurs in the lungs of the body in the alveoli. Oxygen diffuses from the alveoli of the lungs into the small capillaries that surround them and carbon dioxide diffuses in the opposite direction; this is called gaseous exchange and it happens to oxygenate and get rid of the waste carbon dioide.
