Slow Cookers

Slow cookers, also known as Crock-pots, are small or medium electronic cooking appliances used to simmer food at relatively low temperatures over a period of hours. While it is best to defrost meat before putting it in a crock pot, it is possible to produce good results without prior defrosting. Set the frozen meat on top of a layer of prepared root vegetables. Set the slow cooker on high for one hour, to bring the heat up to cooking level quickly. Then reduce to low and allow to cook according to directions for the size of the roast. The best way to cook smoked ham in a crock pot is to pour water, about 1" to 2" deep, in the crock pot, then place the ham in the pot. It depends on whether your ham is sliced or whole as to how long you should cook it. For sliced ham, you can cook it 4 to 6 hours; for whole ham, cook it 6 to 8 hours.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. Keeping mashed potatoes on low and covered in a crock pot is an excellent way to keep them warm. Another idea (if the crock is busy with other things) is to use a hot water bath. Just place the bowl of mashed potatoes inside another bowl of warm to hot water. Use kettle water to replenish the heat of the water bath when necessary.

Can you cook frozen chicken with no goblets in slow cooker?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Although I have never used "goblets" in my slow cooker I imagine they would save some time in that they can be used instead of a serving platter, however I would recommend a "Pyrex" brand to withstand the heat and prevent the glass from shattering which would make for an unpleasant meal. I also expect that indigestion would be the least of your problems.
