Olive oil is vegetable oil, only better for you. Extra virgin has a lovely olive flavor which you might not appreciate in your biscuits, so extra light (oil NOT from the first pressing of the olives) might be a good idea.

Will olive oil taken by mouth dissolve bad fats in the body?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. Olive oil is high in monounsaturated fats, which are known to improve cholesterol levels. Saturated and trans-fats worsen cholesterol levels. In a way it could be thought that monounsaturated fats "undo" the negative effects caused by saturated and trans-fats on cholesterol levels, but by no means does olive oil "dissolve" bad fats. While replacement of saturated and trans fats with foods high in monounsaturated fat is a smart idea, chugging straight olive oil isn't the best of ideas. Monounsaturated oils, like all oils, are very dense calorically- just a tablespoon has over 100 calories. Straight consumption of olive oil could then easily add hundreds of calories to your diet, which could add up to extra pounds- which won't be doing your heart a favor.

Can you fry fish with bread crumbs in olive oil?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Absolutely you can; there are numerous bread recipes that actually call for olive oil. But you can also use your own basic bread recipe and subsitute olive oil for the shortening, butter, etc., that the recipe calls for. The taste will be a bit different, but that's pretty much the only difference.

You can also take it in a different step by the addition of herbs to the bread, giving it more of a Greek flavor, if desired. Another option is sprinkling freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top of the bread when it's about halfway done, which is delicious.

Can you make perogies with olive oil?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes you can fry in olive oil, but you must take care as olive oil burns a lot easier than vegetable or sunflower oil. you must not use extra virgin olive oil for frying or cooking as it burns far too fast and will turn into bad fats, keep extra virgin olive oil for salad dressings or coating potatoes, vegetables or pasta for an extra yummy taste before serving.

You can use it but I recommend sunflower.

Does olive oil contain yeast?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, Oil of Oregano can cause a skin rash if a person ingests too much. If a person is taking Oil of Oregano, only 3 to 5 drops should be taken with a teaspoon of pure Virgin Olive Oil, then follow up with some crackers or chips to get rid of the pungent taste in your mouth! It can also cause nausea and vomiting in some people, and if that occurs, or if a skin rash occurs, discontinue use immediately! I have not found an antidote for the rash, but I believe if a person drinks plenty of fluids, or even butter milk, that should help clear up the problem after a few days. In the meantime, a person could try putting some lotion on it to help with the itching.

How do you Make rosemary olive oil?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This would be done by infusion.

You will need a fancy bottle with a good stopper/cork

Take several good stalks of fresh rosemary from you garden and wash well, pat dry and place in clean sterilized bottle.

Decant enough good quality olive oil into the bottle to fill and seal with the cork.

Allow to sit in a cool dark place for at least 30 days or longer. The olive oil will take on the flavor of the rosemary as the herb steeps in the oil.
