What produces oxytocin?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

oxytocin: a pituitary octapeptide hormone C43H66N12O12S2 that stimulates especially the contraction of uterine muscle and the secretion of milk.

Oxytocin ( /ˌɒksɨˈtoʊsɪn/) is a mammalian hormone that acts primarily as a neuromodulator in the brain. Oxytocin has the distinction of being the very first polypeptide hormone to be sequenced and synthesized biochemically, by Vincent du Vigneaud et al. in 1953.[1]

Oxytocin is best known for its roles in female reproduction. It is released in large amounts 1) after distension of the cervix and uterus during labor, and 2) after stimulation of the nipples, facilitating birth and breastfeeding. Recent studies have begun to investigate oxytocin's role in various behaviors, including orgasm, social recognition, pair bonding, anxiety, and maternal behaviors.[2] For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as the "love hormone".[3]

The word oxytocin is a corruption of the Greek ὼκυτοκίνη, ōkytokínē, "quick labor".

What do you do if your dog ate Calcitriol Topical ointment?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Call your vet immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to arise. This medication can cause kidney failure when dogs ingest it. I know this because 2 days ago my dog ingested 3 sample sized tubes of it and is now in the veterinary hospital with renal failure. The vitamin D in the cream apparently causes the dogs calcium levels to rise dramatically and can cause damage to the kidneys and heart. Don't wait! The sooner the vet can treat your dog the better it's chances of averting danger. BTW My vet did not think this medication would have done much damage until he read the case file from poison control.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are many reports that this drink was discontinued at one time, and that may be fact, but currently (November 2011) they are being produced in limited supply. The following quote was taken directly from a SoBe representative on their Facebook page:

SoBe Unfortunately, Adrenaline Rush is made in very, very limited supply now. You can check out our Store Locator to see if it's sold near you: http://www.pepsicobeveragefacts.com/storelocator/index600.html (Here's the shortcut for how to find it: Home > Energy Drinks > SoBe Adrenaline Rush > Adrenaline Rush Regular)

I am able to find it in both North and South Carolina. Many people have complained, so hopefully they will listen. Please comment on their Facebook page and sign this petition if you'd like it mass produced again:
