Who was the sleeping man in Miracle at St Anna?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Im trying to find out too, but im sure its the "chocolate giant" The big black guy, since when he picked up the other GI and choked him someone saw said HE IS THE SLEEPING MAN

it is not the "chocolate giant"/big black guy .. it is a legend as they said in the movie. A Italian legend that keeps them safe, its a mountain too.

Truthfully it is both. Yes the sleeping man was a legend about a man that slept atop the mountain, but also it was the chocolate giant at that moment. When Train begins to choke the lieutenant in order to protect the Italian boy, the older Italian man says "It's the sleeping man." basically suggesting that the spirit of the sleeping man lies within Train, explaining his determination to protect the Italian boy. At least that is what i took away from the movie.

The sleeping man is also in the background, as the cliff looks like a face facing up.

Well originally I thought Rip Van Winkle was the original sleeping man...but then I put the blunt out...

No, but seriously though concerning the sleeping man in the movie " Miracle at st. Anna " one must realize that the answer for the most part lies within the question. I believe that rather than ask Who is the sleeping man? one must ask himself What is the sleeping man? And furthermore what would it take to wake him up? In order to solve it one must melt with every major character and aspect of the film, which all have a part in providing the answer.

Though the "Chocolate Giant" was indeed one of the major aspects of the film I believe he only represented one of the requisites of what it would take to evoke the legend or " wake up" the sleeping man. The rare quality he possessed was that of an adult with the faith of a child which provided him with boundless strength, especially when it came to doing what he knew to be right. Though he placed his faith in the woman's head which he carried, it was not the object that gave him strength, it was again his faith in the face of adversity, and his heart that was as big as the mountain where the sleeping man lay. The statue head of the woman which he carried was merely a a representation of the Wisdom he carried with him, wisdom being often described in Biblical and other philosophical litterature as a female entity: For such emence power to be in the hands of a child-like colossis would be catastrophic without wisdom to guide him. One must also consider where and how he died, which was in the "door way" of a holy place during an act of valor, which I trully believe would be an honor for any real man to die in such a fashion. The chocolate giant was a representation of the masculine strength of a man's heart which is provided by courage with childish faith and purity guided by the feminine principle of wisdom.

So we have Strength, Courage, and Wisdom with the heart of the "chocolate giant" but also in order to wake up the sleeping man one must go deeper into his heart( which lies in the mountain) and take into account the duality of a man's heart.

Consider the legend of the sleeping man mountain provided in the movie, this " shepherd who loved a woman who would not love him back" for whatever reason. Then consider the conflict between the two soldiers "Stamps" and " Bishop " and the Italian beauty that hangs in the balance of these two coincidentally light and dark representations. I believe that stamps somehow represented the good shepherd. Though there more than likely wasn't a soldier there who wouldn't have minded "laying the smack down" on some of that good Italian lasagne( the hot Italian chick) provided a brief brake from all the war"five taps boom-boom" mayhem happening, Stamps even after obviously being initially offered pleasureful occasion with her, respectfully declines having both the knowledge of her being a married woman and that her husband was a soldier like himself. Hence, demonstrating attributes of nobility, unaverted dedication to present duty and some self control concerning his primal desires, adhering to the golden rule " do unto others..." However this good shepherd is certainly not without his failing in that when presented with the final showdown with his counter part, Bishop ( a.k.a the bad shepherd we'll briefly discuss later) it would seem that Stamps had a very bad temper, perhaps angry for what he thinks he wanted but couldn't have because of his dedication to higher ordeals, and is prepared to employ lethal force against Bishop which does exactly what such negative counter parts wants heros to do which is to sink to their level; This being demonstrated by Stamps' chance to destroy Bishop for being what he trully was, and the "Master P-esque gold toothy" smile on Bishop's face after being released from Stamp's "wrath" being one of the deadly sins. No matter how good the shepherd, I suppose he must make sure he's killing the wolf to protect the sheep and not his ego.

Naturally, next we have Bishop, the faithless former preacher or " bad shepherd " if you will. Obviously somewhat knowledgeable in scriptural matters from years of lip service concerning the good faith, however when certain prevailant questions concerning the ails of humanity aren't answered to him in a manner or timing suitable to his taste he, much like many modern preachers struggling with their faith in the world begins to believe that the bottom line concerning belief is as the age old adage cites " if it don't make dollars it don't make sense" I would wager that a former preacher who has to be told that it is inappropriate to smoke in church more than likely wouldn't have much respect for a woman's marital vows; Marriage being one of the respectfully oldest and dearest religious myths and rites in the world. However Bishop doesn't consider the soldier who may or may not be alive in a trench somewhere praying that he'll be able to make it home to his wife just one more time , because all he's concerned with is getting a taste of some of that pure blood "Italian lasagne" so he can tell the boys back home about it; if he makes it back, that is. I guess if Bishop can't believe in anything without physical properties, I guess no one around him should either, because misery loves..you guessed it, company. So it did Bishop's faithless little heart some good to shatter Stamps' vision of beauty by "banging" the married beauty, and making him feel like a so called sucker for not taking advantage of her in a moment of spiritual weakness while he had the chance. However short lived his moment of pleasure with the married beauty ,( which it litteraly was) even when he possessed the statues head which the chocolate giant carried, it served him no good in his last moments as it did the chocolate giant because he didn't believe in the faith that the chocolate giant placed in it. Also he didn't put up much of a survival effort in his last moments, certainly not as formidable as Stamps' was neither was it nearly as honorable.Too much lasagne perhaps? Bishop's role in the heart of the sleeping man to me was that of a man who respects little to nothing unless it can be held in his hand and call it his and if he can't grasp something special immediately , he would rather destroy it before letting someone else have it. Selfishness, cruelty, and blindness. The classic anti hero.

Finally, we come to the married beauty, who in some respects I believe represents the woman by which the sleeping man was deeply enamorated, the one who wouldn't love the shepherd back. To me she is nearly the opposite of the feminine principle of wisdom represented by the statue head carried by the chocolate giant. Perhaps the life as a shepherd's wife didn't seem all that appealing to her, either for the difficulties that maybe involved in her husband fufiling his duties as a protector being less than glamorous or even terribly frightning to her. When presented by the duality of the heart of such a man( represented by Stamps and Bishop) one would wonder why she would choose the lust of the latter and not the reverence of the former? I believe it was simply that it seemed to her that Bishop wanted her more. Now one musn't think she was a bad woman who got her just deserves in the end for hurting Stamps ( which to be honest, I too cheered a little at when she caught a bullet between those delicious looking boobies, sorry ladies!) but we must realize that she represented a woman with shaken faith in her man( who was at war) as many modern women are, and express it in various different ways spoken and unspoken. Though some women may respect the pure and tender affections a man may have for her which may keep him from ravaging her in the savage manner she no doubt would enjoy, many women would just like to hurry up and get to the savage ravaging part. Therefore the impatient women goes for what seems like the more immediate bigger better deal and is often erroneous in making such an option. Mind you, it is very understandable that this woman had more than likely been worried sick about her husband, unsure whether he would be back for her or not; also it had probably been a while since she had been around any real masculinity( seeing as though her father didn't seem very macho on a few occasions during the movie, from the women having to point to him when the soldiers asked who is in charge instead of him immediately presenting himself, to his last words before becoming Swiss cheese being fascisti! fascisti! but that's just me.) Who could blame her for wanting to feel like a real woman by something tall, dark, and handsome while she was under alot of emotional and psychological distress given the circumstances. However it's always the wicked that know in advance, and she knew what kind of man bishop was from the moment Bishop he offered her a cigarette in the church. Hell, even bishop knew that it was merely a waiting game before he'd have her grabbing her ankles after that point;something about the eyes that communicate these things whether you speak the same language or not. I'm sorry to say though ladies and you can disagree if you want, but it is not often in a woman's nature to believe in things she cannot see immediately, or at least in the foreseeable not too distant future, and because of that such foolish desicions are made, then she end's up stuck with a Bishop like character, who she eventually sees him for what he really is after the moment of intense desire has faded, and then she wants to hate all men for her lack of judgment. Anyway the married beauty character in this film is not only an example of how taxing a woman such as this can be to a man's heart, but also how dangerous such a woman can be to her surroundings. We see this on two occasions in the film; one where she reinforces everyone's faith on an obvious rat faced traitor, and the second when after she's done her little deed with Bishop she celebrates by cutely modeling his battle gear, unknowing that the wolf was coming soon to devour them, and it was her who let him in with her folly. To me a woman such as this can almost simply be aptly named...the sleeping woman.

However, even though loving a woman such as this can be a rather daunting, and arduous task to the heart of a man, he does not forsake the task altogether because it is too difficult, but rather his love for her is unrelenting because it is true, and he understands that she completes him as a man so she is to be valued accordingly, and even beyond death his love for her will always be at her service whenever she may need it, even if she wasn't his in life. His love is unselfish, and would always provide her warmth and comfort, simply because his love for her is the very essence of such tender elements.

In conclusion, the answer to the mysterious identity of the sleeping man as I understand it is simple...it's you! The sleeping man is the extraordinary power that lay dormant within the heart of every man who seeks the power of love and not the love of power. Such power belongs to heroes who " man-up " to truly heroic deeds even when the fear is so intense it pains you in the pit of your stomach. Remember, " deeds not words" was written on one of the missiles they loaded in the launcher in the beginning of the movie. A man doesn't always do what he want to do, but when the time is right in his heart, he always does what he has to do; but he also has to do it right, keeping his cool while simeoultaneously melting with all the elements around him before making his move in good time. When you are in doubt, always choose the least selfish option, never stop believing that you are a legend in your own rite, and remember that there is something far greater than yourself watching behind the scenes of your story who is pushing for super heroes like you to make it as long as you always have it in your heart to do the right thing, even if you mess up of fall short, as all heroes do while they are learning what it truly means to be a hero. Remember though that even when you mess up, be brave enough to admit it, The Sooner The Better!!!

Even the fact that you asked the question of who the sleeping man is and that you made it through the this lengthy explanation says that you were are meant to find the complete answer someday, and that the sleeping man lay deep within your heart waiting to wake up and transform you into the super hero you know you were born to be, just never stop believing it no matter what. Finally, poor little shepherd, don't worry about finding the precious love you want in that beautiful woman of your dreams, because I can guarantee she will find you by hook or crook. All you have to do is keep you hands off yourself during those lonely nights, and focus on super hero training!!!

Chances are the woman that you are chasing doesn't have what it takes to be with a super hero yet and she is being prepared especially for you, and believe me, every woman wants to be with a real live hero...not a bully or a showoff, but a hero with a heart the size of a mountain, and if she can't see and respect that your doing your best to be such a man, or believe in you enough in your deeds not just words to nurture you enough so that such a hero can take form, then shepherd boy, you don't need her, just keep on watching them sheep without falling asleep, and always stay ready for the wolf.

I hope this answers your question somehow, as I did my very best to give it to in hopes to rouse the right person's or people's spirit to make manifest the best that is in you. WAKE UP SLEEPING MAN!!!

Who narrates Woodward tv on YouTube?

i think it may be jerren lewis from aoc ( ambassadors of christ ) but i'm not positive .. either way tho whoever does it has the greatest narrator voice out there .. and he does it so well .. i can't imagine anyone else doin it better.. on aoc he sticks pretty close to biblical teachings and goes quite in depth .. on woodward tv he steps a bit more into the sci fy aspect of the world as we know it and even a little past what most can comprehend .. but he does it well .. he does not claim to know for sure and offers suggestions based on what he can see and understand .. and offers food for thought ..and i believe if fallen angels wanted to deceive us they would probably come as extra terrestrials so as to try and shake our faith in jesus christ .. and they would most likely have the technology to pull it off ..so ..2 different channels an 2 different ways to see it but in the end .. all roads still lead to christ for our salvation ..
