What does an executor of estate do when a will wasn't made and there is a lot of unknown debt Is it mandatory to post who the executor is in the newspaper so these debts can be paid?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When there is no will, the estate is typically distributed according to state laws of intestacy. The executor would need to identify and pay off any known debts using the estate's assets. While it may not be mandatory to publish the executor's name in the newspaper, doing so can inform any creditors of the estate, making it easier to address outstanding debts.

Is wife responsible for credit card debt if husband dies?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I live in Texas. My husband had a credit card in his name only. When he passed away, I was told I did not have to pay his card off. However, for me, I did anyway. First of all, I benefited from the things that were charged on it. Secondly, Jesus told us to pay Caesar what Caesar is due. To me, that means to pay our debts. I just felt it was the right thing to do to pay that card off. They were surprised when I called to do that. It also lets me sleep better at night and it pleases the Lord.
