Which laundry detergent is best for elderly people?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A gentle, hypoallergenic detergent specifically designed for sensitive skin is a good choice for elderly people, as their skin can be more delicate. Look for products that are fragrance-free and dye-free to reduce the risk of irritation. It may also be helpful to choose a liquid detergent over a powder to avoid any potential breathing hazards.

Where does the term 'laundry list' come from?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It may originate from as early as the Civil War, when soldiers would jot a list of their items to be laundered (and hopefully returned). In any event, it comes from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century when many sent their laundry out to be cleaned.

Columnist Ed Quillen who worked in a commercial laundry shop as a boy wrote in the Denver Post June 6, 2008, that the term refers to what must be listed when you send your laundry to a service, since 1) there were so many distinctions between different pieces of clothing for men, women, children, and various professions, and 2) the laundry service had to mark every individual piece of clothing per customer, sort into piles by color and water temperature, and ensure that all the pieces were returned to their proper owner.

A laundry list could be very personalized per customer, and might have been frequently re-used for loyal customers. Those with long laundry lists had more clothes and were probably more wealthy than others, and all their belongings would have been more difficult to track.

Through the years the term has come to mean any relatively long, detailed list of items.

It has also come to have a negative connotation. You may find usage such as "She recited a long laundry list of familiar complaints" or "His application had a long laundry list of accomplishments" or "We have a laundry list of tasks" - smacking of dullness and overkill when a focus on fewer high-impact priorities may be more effective.

An exception may be when the term is used as an organizing principle. Some commercial enterprise business system and Web storefront software like DDMS use "laundry list" to mean a categorized list of items that a customer frequently buys, particularly in the office supply, janitorial/sanitation, machine & equipment, or hardware industries. In this case it is similar to a customer pricing contract but more focused on frequency of use, and similar to a Favorites or Wish List but more focused on what has actually been purchased.

Can you put liquid laundry detergent in a carpet washer vacuum?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You sure can! The ratio is 1 tablespoon per quart of water. It does work but not as well as carpet shampoo. I would use it if you run out of carpet shampoo. Try not to add much more detergent.

What if I use high efficiency laundry detergent in a regular washer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

HE laundry detergent is formulated to produce fewer suds similar to automatic dish washer detergent. Supposedly, it is fine to use in a regular washer, and you would use the same quantity as you would in an HE machine (using the recommended amount of detergent as indicated on the product packaging).

For more information, see related link below.

Clarification:

If you do use a HE (High Effenciency) laundry detergent in a regular washer (non high effenciency), you may need to use a bit more than you would in a HE washer, since regular washers use more water, therefore diluting the detergent/water ratio.

What you cannot do, however, is use regular detergent in a HE washer.

What causes so much dust in a house if you dust all of the furniture and two days later it looks like it has been weeks since it was done?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dust in a house is mainly composed of skin cells, fibers from fabrics, and outdoor particles that get tracked inside. Even with regular dusting, these sources continuously replenish the dust in your home. Factors like open windows, pets, and lack of air filtration can also contribute to the quick accumulation of dust.

How do you get the sour smell from washed clothes?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Before primary washing in regular washing powder/soap.

Soke the clothes in a solution of baking soda(Sodium bi-carbonate/sodium hydrogen carbonate) or Soda crystals(Washing soda/ sodium carbonate).

Rinse

Then wash in the normal detergent.

If cotton or linen clothes, whilst wet/damp put them into laundry starch solution, hand squeeze dry, and allow to dry in the air.

When dry , then iron/callender. (They'll be 'stiff as a board'. )

NB Sodium bi-carbonate or sodium carbonate, is a soluble salt, that will remove smells from many things, clothes, floors, drains, working surfaces.

It is harmless to human skin, but wear kitchen gloves if needed, although it might make the skin a bit dry.

Of itself it is odourless, white crystals.

NB DO NOT use Bleech.

How do you wash off sperm off clothes will it wash off?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Follow the care label instructions. Just wash it as normal.

By funking it up with special cleaners, that will only make it worse. Just toss it in the washer, warm, or even cold wash. HOT will "set" the stain in.

I would suggest pre-rinsing it first in a sink/basin... just put whatever it is on in the washer, wash it then put it in the dryer.

if you think it's that gross, then repeat a wash cycle BEFORE you dry it. Easy.

How do you clean pee from leather?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is a tough one. You can get the urine out of the cloth, but usually it seeps down inside the batting and foam. The best thing to do is get a carpet cleaner to come in and have them do some deep cleaning on your furniture. After it's dry use "Febreeze" spray to get any odors out. I own pets and even though my dogs and cat are very clean, I put blankets on my furniture and take them off when company comes. This also is a good preventative measure if one of friends is coming over with her kids and they have their shoes on or have an accident. It's easier to wash the blankets and cheaper!

Can you put feather duvets in the dryer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes. Warm water. Dry until COMPLETELY dry. If really large, use the front loaders at the laundromat. Put a couple of tennis balls or clean sneakers in the dryer to break up the clumps.

*Some* dry cleaners will take feather-filled bedding *if* it is completely enclosed in a case (many feather ticks come with a large zipper covering that can be removed).
