Who produced the first VCR?

User Avatar

Asked by WriteClub

== ==

Sony actually invented the first VCR. They developed both the VHS and Beta formats, and sold the rights to JVC for the VHS format because they believed the Beta format produced a better picture (which it did, by the way).

The reason the Beta format lost out was because of the availaible time that could be recorded on a VHS cassette. The VHS would hold up to eight hours on a tape and the beta maxed out around 4 or 41/2 hours of recording time.

The beta system could have stored more, but because of the physical size of the beta cassette, there just wasn't enough room to accomodate the extra amount of tape required. The beta format also required the tape to run through the recording heads at a faster speed to be able to record the additional picture image information on the tape.

What is a HDMI Digital AV cable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

An HDMI cable connects digital audio/video devices to each other so that data can be transmitted from one device to the other. For example, a DIRECTV receiver, DVD player, Blu-ray™ Disc player, or similar device, to an HDTV. It allows the transmission of both audio and video data over a single cable and it's a digital alternative to analog cables like S-Video, coaxial, composite video, or VGA.

HDMI cables are available at most electronics stores. To connect an HDMI cable from your HD DVR or HD receiver to your HDTV, just look for the port labeled "HDMI" on each device and insert the proper end of the cable into each of the ports.

What to look for in HDMI cable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Any properly tested and certified cable will work as well as any other. There will be no difference in quality between a $5 cable and a $100 cable. Claims of "improved quality" or "higher definition" by manufacturers and sellers are misleading at best and might be considered dishonest.

By buying an HDMI cable from a reputable dealer, you should guarantee that the cable will be a certified design that is guaranteed to operate correctly.

How do you change the parking lamp bulb on an 2001 rav4?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Get the lamp from your local auto parts store (they were less than $5 here). I'm assuming by parking lamp, you mean the ones (the parking lamp and signal lamp share the same "bracket") low on the bumper below the headlights.

Lights OFF - these bulbs are very hot! Philips screwdriver - loosen both screws on the lens cover and the bracket will the swivel out towards the side of the RAV. At the base, there are 2 cables going in. Grasp the base of the cable and twist slightly (I think it was counterclockwise) and the bulb assembly pops out. From the base of the bulb, pull it away from the assembly and put the new one in. Replace the base of the bulb assembly into the bracket and place bracket back on the Rav and tighten screws (may want to check that they work first so you don't have to loosen screws first)

Are there different types of HDMI cables?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

An analog signal might become distorted in various ways that may or may not be noticed. No so with digital in a home environment. PC World found no difference between a $150.00 HDMI and a $3.04 one in their tests. This is the general concensus on the Web.

This does NOT mean that a cable with poor strain relief or cheap, loose connectors won't eventually break and give you problems. But you don't need to spend more than a few bucks to get a decent cable. Don't even THINK of spending "Monster Cable" prices for HDMI!

Can you use standard cables with an HDMI TV?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No, however you can connect a computer to the tv.

Many new computers have either a DVI or an HDMI display port. These are the digital replacements to the 15 pin VGA connector that has been around for many years.

Almost all new televisions have an HDMI input. If the computer has an HDMI output, then a simple HDMI cable should carry both video and audio to the television.

If the computer has a DVI output, a DVI to HDMI cable can be used because the video element of HDMI is identical to the DVI signal. Unfortunately, DVI does not support audio so a separate cable will be needed for the audio signal. Because of the lack of audio support on DVI, most televisions have at least one HDMI input that has a separate analog audio input that is linked to the HDMI port.

For computers without a DVI or HDMI port, USB based display ports can be purchased at a relatively low cost and will provide a digital video output.

Finally, there are a number of televisions that have VGA inputs and can accept VGA directly. Others have a set of five RCA or phono sockets normally marked as R, G, B, H, V. The five connectors will normally handle a VGA signal with the right adaptor cable.

Some computers are fitted with either a composite or S-video connector. Although these can connect into most televisions, the quality is very poor compared to any other connections above. Try to avoid either of these connections if possible.

How do you get balanced sound on a surround sound system?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Ususally every receiver comes with a mic that you hook up to the receiver right after you hook up all the speakers and the sub. If your receiver doesnt already sense that the jack is in you may have to go to the menu manually. put the mic where you will usually be sitting the the area and at about head height. now your speakers and sub will make different sounds, the receiver calculates these sounds and even measures your room by sound. now your surround system is set to go. remember you can always manually tweak you sound. hope this helps

What uses xlr cables?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

XLR refers to a type of connector rather than a cable although talking about XLR cables is common. An XLR connector is a round connector with between 3 and 7 pins. They tend too be used in commercial applications although they find their way into domestic systems as well.

By far the most common use is as a microphone lead which uses the three pin version. Line level audio signals use the same cables and connectors so they are completely interchangeable, other than the signal level itself.

DMX, a lighting control protocol, uses 5 pin XLR connectors as well as 3 pin. The DMX cable is a specific impedance but because three pin XLRs are available on much of the equipment, users inevitably install mic cable instead of DMX cable. Mic cable works most of the time.

Talkback systems are communications systems used in theatres, studios and OB events. They use 3, 4 or 5 pin XLRs to connect the various stations in a talkback system. Three pin systems are the most common and once again, microphone cables are commonly used.

Some commercial loudspeakers and amplifiers use XLRs for speaker connections although they are rarely used today.

And finally, XLRs are used for anything that needs a robust and high current connector. They are frequently found in all kinds of custom built equipment.

What is audio line level output?

User Avatar

There are basically three levels in audio. Microphone level which is the very low level put out by a microphone. Speaker level is the very high level put out by a amplifier that feeds a speaker. Line level is the middle level that is used to feed audio between components. Consumer audio devices usually use a RCA connector for line level.
