Electric Windows

The first electric windows were introduced in 1940 as an alternative to the hand-turned windows. These car windows can be lowered and raised by pressing a switch or button. Electric windows are designed for convenience and safety.

How do you replace a window motor - 99 Bravada drivers side?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You will need to remove the door panel first. In a '99 Bravada, there are a total of three screws to remove. First, remove the screw behind the door opening lever and remove the plastic cover that hides the internals of the door. Then, there are two screws hidden below the handle on the door (the handle below the locking tab/door opening lever). At this point, everything else is held in place with plastic clips and you will literally have to rip the panel from the car. Be careful so you don't break any of the clips if it can be avoided - it won't matter if you break one or two, however. Pull slowly and finesse the panel off and carefully set it aside.

Once you're into the door, you will see a black vinyl membrane that serves to block wind and dampen sound. It is held on with black silicone for the most part (you can replace that later on), however it runs under the speaker housing that is held in place with rivets. When I did this job, I just cut the membrane with scissors and patched it with duct tape when I was finished (I didn't feel like drilling out any more rivets than I had to). If you want to take the extra time to drill out the additional rivets, go for it.

At this point, you will need to remove the pane of glass and set it safely aside. It is not easy to get the glass out, but wiggle it enough and you can get it. It is held in solely by friction. There will be four rivets holding the motor in. You will have to drill these out to remove the unit. Be very careful at this stage, as there are sharp metal edges inside the door that can give you a nasty slice. I recommend a quality electric (not battery-powered) high-speed drill with carbide bits for this part of the job - or even an angle grinder if you happen to be skilled at using one in tight spaces. The rivets are NOT easy to remove, and you won't have a lot of room to work with. After the rivets are removed, you can slide the motor and regulator out. DO NOT drill out the spot welds holding the bottom rail of the mechanism to the door panel. This is permanent and should never be removed - just greased with a decent lithium or other automotive grease. The rest of the mechanism should slide right off the rail. Be sure and vacuum out any metal shavings from the bottom of the door.

Once you have the old parts out, just work backwards to put the new ones in. Because you drilled out the factory rivets, you'll have to find suitable nuts and bolts to mount the new motor (which should be no problem at all). This guide also applies to the Chevy Blazer, Chevy S-10, and GMC Jimmy for the same year, as they are identical vehicles in this respect.

Overall, this is about a 3 - 4 hour project (this is taking into account that it is enormously difficult). If you aren't up for it, take the vehicle to an auto glass place to have the work done.

As always, if you have any questions head to the library or auto parts store and pick up the service manual for your vehicle. It has detailed photos and step-by-step instructions. I prefer the Hayne's guides myself, but the choice is yours.

How do you replace the electric window motors on a 1993 Olds cutlass Supreme?

Open door. Remove two screws under seat belt cover top left of door panel. Remove screw in upper front of panel. Remove screw in bottom of door. Pry out carefully the power window switch assembly. Remove two screws under switches. Then go around door panel edge's and pry off clips that hold panel on. Remove panel. In the middle of the door there are four pop rivets that hold in the motor regulator assembly. Drill them out. Unplug motor and slide motor assembly to the back of door and it should come out of track. Remove it through the hole in middle back of door. You may want to tape window up so it doesn't fall and break. Hint: you may have to run motor around to get it out through the hole. After you have the assembly out of the car you will need to drill out the rivets that hold the motor to the Regulator.

How do you fix a window that does not go up in a Citroen ZX?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First make sure that the fuses are all OK. Then check the window relays. Then check to see if the other windows move up-down. If they do then the problem is with that window only.

It could be the motor is jammed. A jammed motor can somtimes be enticed to work by holding the window switch in the up mode while slamming the door. It could be the control switch is dirty. It could be that you have to take the door panel off and check to see what is binding the lift mechanism. Many such motors have a thermal cutout when they can't close the window they tend to overheat and then disconnect - cutout. It may be that it is opened.

If the car is older there is more dirt accumulated at the control switches. You may have to take that apart or off and buy some CONTACT cleaner or tuner cleaner from Radio Shack or somewhere and spray INTO the switches while moving the switches.

It is also possible that one of the control wires fell off - highly unlikely but possible.

I would go to the library and borrow a book on how to remove the door panel.

How do you remove the drivers side window motor in a 1993 S10 Blazer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First, make sure it isn't a window switch. many people have bought expensive replacement motors, when the problem was only the switch in one of the doors. If one switch is bad, the other one will not work & the window will not move. If it is the motor, then is is strongly advised to buy the motor with the regulator attached to it. The doors on these trucks are a PAIN to work with. Take off the plastic door panel, unbolt the inner steel door panel, be careful & release the linkages, while tilting the steel inner panel to unhook the regulator from the window. this is NOT a fun job.

How do you replace the driver's side window motor in a 2000 Ford Expedition?

You dont need to replace the motor just fix it. Remove the door panel by taking out a couple of screws around the inside door handle, the bottom rear of the door and pull the panel up and out. Unplug the window, door lock and courtesy light plugs. You will find three bolts that hold the motor in place. Remove them and the motor will fall out. Now unplug the motor and it is ready to fix. There are a few people on eBay selling the bushings that go bad, buy one of these kits. Each motor gear assembly has three bushings, they are sacrificial and will rot over time, it they where not there damage to the motor gears could occur they protect against it. The bushings can be tricking to get in, but if you get all three of them diagonally in and push hard they will slide in. When putting the motor back in make sure the outer gear goes onto the crescent shaped large gear in the door, if not you will just be putting the motor outside the gear. Put the connectors and door panel back on and you have spend one hour and $9 (That's what I paid for the bushings on eBay)

How do you remove and replace the passenger front seat interior door panel so a power window regulator-motor can be replaced on a 1999 Toyota Avalon XLS?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If it is similar to a 2000 Avalon panel, there were a total of of 7 screws and two door panel clips. One screw is in the handle itself (is that what you are fixing?), behind a square plastic tab. A large sgrew is revealed by prying up the armrest cover. Two screws are hidden under round tabs. All of the prying is done easily but by carfeully using a taped flat bladed screwdriver.

It took me about twenty minutes, after I read an online description on changing a Camry door handle for the same model year. My handle also broke. The procedures were same but the cost at my Toyota for the Avalon parts were much higher than the stated Camry parts. I live in Hawaii.

How do you change the driver side window motor on a 1998 Lincoln Navigator?

This is not the easiest job you can tackle, but you CAN do it. But unless you're highly intuitive, or have done some mechanic work, it'll beat you. THE BEST WAY TO START is to buy a repair manual for your model car. I like the Chilton's version, but there are others. Haynes comes to mind. I bought a Chilton's through Amazon.com for my '89 Geo Metro. Under $15, and the best investment you'll make. I won't go further. I personally would not tackle it without a manual. Good luck (I have to do the same thing on both doors of my 2000 Camaro SS, and I'm dreading it.)

How do you fix a broken car window handle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

your going to have to take it to a mechanic. mine just recently broke and its because the handle had actually broken from the inside so they had to get all new parts for it. it sucked because for some reason my car window got stuck halfway down and you couldn't get it back up, so people were easily able to break into my car!

How do you Put window back on track 2000 jaguar s-type?

To put a window back on track in a 1996 Geo Metro, the door panel will have to be removed. Use a screwdriver to pry up the clips around the door panel. Then locate the window cable and rewind it. If the window is operated by a power switch, be careful not to pinch the fingers when rewinding the cable.

You don't, you need to buy a new sash, (this is the glass and frame around glass)

In the bottom corner is info, copy the info, measure the visible glass, this is the glass you can see, not including the frame. The you need to see what grills you have, outside, inside, or inside of glass, number of squares. Now what color the outside frame

is, inside frame is, and grills.

Take this info to an Anderson dealer and but the new sash.

Can you put a bathroom in a room that has the electrical panel in it?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

absolutely not...

Besides the fact that "absolutely not" is the common sense answer, the NEC strictly forbids electrical panels from being in bathrooms. There are very few other restrictions, including the fact that there is no restriction on how close to water a panel can be. But the restriction on panels in bathrooms stands tall.

How do you install window 10?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You don't install Windows 10, because Microsoft charges now for "extra" features, such as using the DVD player, and for games like solitaire, both which worked fine in previous versions, but now cost users regularly, like rent.

Recommendation: Use Linux. Its free and easy as using XP.

Ubuntu and Lubuntu are most popular version. Windows users will find Lubuntu easiest to use.

Linux Mint is another popular distribution.
