What size should your baby be at 7 months pregnant?

User Avatar

Asked by Ashleyrosien

Your baby is about 1/3- 1/4 inch long. He/she weighs less than one gram (which is about the weight of a paper clip!!!). At week 7, the baby's brain cells are growing 100 times a minute, arms/legs are starting to bud, and his face is becoming more defined this week! His eyes are open, although the does not have irises yet!

Can downsydrome be detected before birth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Down syndrome in a baby can be identified with amniocentesis during pregnancy or at birth. See more in related link.

Answer

Amniocentesis is a procedure performed on pregnant women to determine possible risk factors with their developing fetus. A long needle is inserted through the abdomen into the uterus, being guided by an ultrasound, that extracts amniotic fluid. This amniotic fluid is then further tested to determine certain risks such as Down syndrome. Although amniocentesis does have it benefits of obtaining this kind of knowledge, it also poses threats to the fetus such as a .8% chance of miscarriage, clubfeet, trauma to the mother, preterm labor and an infection of the uterus.

According to an article published in a Canadian journal, a study in Canada showed that amniocentesis performed between weeks 11 and 13, resulted in 29 out of 4,374 women gave birth to children with clubfeet. Because of this risk, doctors generally try to avoid performing amniocentesis before week 15 of pregnancy.

A safer diagnosis of Down syndrome would be through blood screenings. The mother's blood must be drawn then the sample will be sent to a lab for further testing and possible diagnosis. The first screening is generally done between weeks 11 and 13. A second screening is done between week 15 and 20 of the pregnancy. According to the March of Dimes, karyotyping done through prenatal blood screenings cannot diagnose syndrome of the fetus but they can show whether or not the risk is high or low. Although karyoptying is not as accurate as amniocentesis, it is less invasive and poses no harm to the mother or the fetus.

When is the appropriate time to have a baby shower for expected mother?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Usually this is one or two months before her due. The baby shower is the perfect time to get your friend baby needs and stuff she may not have had time to purchase yet. It has to be well-timed though - not too close to the due date, and not to far as to whittle down the excitement.

How can you tell if you are dilated at 37 weeks pregnant?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A trained person must examine your cervix (at the vault of your vagina) to measure this.

Of course, dilation and labor go together in the pregnancy. A pregnant woman whose cervix is dilating is in labor, and there will be other signs of labor, such as painful contractions (it is the pressure of the uterine contraction that thins and opens -- dilates -- the cervix).

Is it safe to use charcoal briquettes while pregnant?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on what you are going to use them for. If you are going to light a BBQ then the only hazardous thing I can think of is the lighter fluid. I personally like to use a BBQ can, you can buy one at Home Depot or Lowe's, it's just a large vertical metal container with a handle. I put dried twigs in the bottom and then load it with charcoal. Than after I light it I wait about 10-20 minutes for the briquettes to start burning. Then I remove the container and spread the coals out for my BBQ.

I can understand your concern, there may be some harmful chemicals in the briquettes, so I choose the ones that are not instant lighting, or quick starting. Those are the ones that have harmful chemicals in them that you may be concerned about.
