No. Civil unions are not legal in Arkansas, regardless of whether the parties are of the same or different sexes. The state could permit a ceremony between two persons of the same sex to occur on the grounds of the Capitol building, but it would have no legal standing in Arkansas.

Not illegal, just discouraged.

Arkansas Code 1-4-105: Pronunciation of state name

"Whereas, confusion of practice has arisen in the pronunciation of the name of our state and it is deemed important that the true pronunciation should be determined for use in oral official proceedings.

And, whereas, the matter has been thoroughly investigated by the State Historical Society and the Eclectic Society of Little Rock, which have agreed upon the correct pronunciation as derived from history and the early usage of the American immigrants.

Be it therefore resolved by both houses of the General Assembly, that the only true pronunciation of the name of the state, in the opinion of this body, is that received by the French from the native Indians and committed to writing in the French word representing the sound. It should be pronounced in three (3) syllables, with the final "s" silent, the "a" in each syllable with the Italian sound, and the accent on the first and last syllables. The pronunciation with the accent on the second syllable with the sound of "a" in "man" and the sounding of the terminal "s" is an innovation to be discouraged."

What is the maximum legal size knife in Arkansas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Arkansas has no limit on the length of a pocket knife. The law was repealed.

09-FEB-2007 -- The Arkansas legislature has repealed Sec. 5-73-121 of the Arkansas Code pertaining to the offense of carrying a knife as a weapon. Prior to its repeal, Sec. 5-73-121 had imposed a three and a half inch blade length limit on knife carry, and knives carried with blades over the specified length were presumed to be weapons under the statute.

With the repeal of Sec. 5-71-121, implemented as Act 83 of 2007, Arkansas no longer has a statutory blade length limit for knife carry.

Is it legal in the state of Arkansas for a 19 year old male to date a 16 year old female?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dating is not legislated. However, why would an 18 year old adult want to go out with a girl in Junior High School? There is only one reason, and sexual contact of any type is illegal and could land the man in jail.

I highly disagree with this answer. It is corect on the point that dating is not legislated. However, there could be multipule reasons why an 18 year old would want to date a 15 year old. Not every relationship is based on sex and if they feel that there relationship can withstand having NO sexual contact. Then there is no reason why they should not be able to date.

What is the legal age to get married in Arkansas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Right now (Aug. 18, 2007) Arkansas law says that ANY person who is not pregnant may marry in Arkansas at ANY age with parental permission! The mistakenly-worded law reads as follows: "In order for a person who is younger than eighteen (18) years of age and who is not pregnant to obtain a marriage license, the person must provide the county clerk with evidence of parental consent to the marriage." (The word "not" before "pregnant" was not supposed to be there.) This new law took effect July 31, 2007. Since the Arkansas legislature is adjourned through year end, the Governor may need to call a special session to correct the law.

(This information was found in--not quoted from--an 8/18/07 AP article titled "Error in Ark. law allows children to wed".) Oct. 11, 2007 update: The law remains the same. Arkansas governor Mke Beebe declined to call a special session, saying the Arkansas Code Revision Commission could correct the error. But on October 10, an Arkansas circuit judge ruled that the commission did not have the power to make changes to the law's meaning; only the legislature did.

If and when the law is corrected, this answer must be updated. The lowest legal age anywhere in North America to get married without parental permission is 18. Most states will allow 16 or 17 with parental consent.
