Where is the TCC solenoid on a 1996 Ford Taurus - Mercury Sable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The TCC Solenoid is located on the valve body. In order to reach the unit you have to remove the Battery and Battery housing, Air Filter housing & Assembly, And the wiring harness brackets. You then have to support the rear of the engine and remove the Crossmember located behind the drivers side front wheel. There are 5 bolts and 1 mounting bolt. The TCC is secured by 2 bolts directly to the valve body. It is hard but this can be changed with the transaxle still in the vehicle.

How do you replace the headlight - headlamp bulb on a 1996-1999 Mercury Sable - Ford Taurus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It appears there are 3 small bolts (10mm(?) that hold the headlight assembly in place. Remove those and the entire headlight will come out - that will make access to the bulb a whole lot easier!

Twist the collar-type retainer on the back of the headlamp to release the bulb socket - pull straight out.

NOTE: Do not touch the glass of the new halogen bulb - the oils in the skin will shorten the life-span of the new bulb.

Also - there are instructions and diagrams for this in the Owner's Manual that came with the car - See "Related Questions" for free online copy of the Owners Manual

Answerunder the hood you reach under the front cowling behind the headlight and gently pull the connector off (don't pry up on it or it will break) and then twist the ring holding it in and your set. Unbolting the battery on the drivers side and moving it in helps also. Just don't unbolt anything on the headlight or alignment can be off. Answerif it is the light bulb that needs changing then open the hood and behind the light fixture there will be a wire going into the fixture. at the end of the wire there is a rubber insulator connected to the fixture turn that counter clockwise and pull it out, and the connection should come out the bulb will be in the connection. then just simply replace and put it back in. if the fixture is broken then you will have to take it to a mechanic.

How do you change a starter for a 2004 Mercury Sable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Remove both leads to the battery. There are two bolts holding the starter to the transmission. One, the bolt closer to the radiator has a ground on it and has a nut on the bolt fastening the ground lead to the bolt.

After removing the ground a deep socket will be needed to remove the bolt. The rear bolt comes out and you have a starter in your hands.

You have a positive cable attached to the starter and an ignition bypass still attached that must be removed before you can drop the starter.

I have changed brushes in the 3.8 starter and found the starter will go another 100,000 miles. This is a gear reduction starter that should be checked to draw about 80 amps without a load. Some will draw more than 130 amps which is definitely over spec.

The cost of brushes lists for $50 but can be purchased for $15 from a starter rebuilder.

A little grease on the bearing surfaces, and a little polishing of the communtator, and the starter will work well for years.

AnswerHey Russell==Disconnect the battery. Raise the car up and remove the wires from the starter. Then remove the bolts and work it out among the exhaust pipes. GoodluckJoe

---The reason so many look at this topic may be the chilton manual which shows a diagram of the 3.0L starter shrunk down to unreadable. What looks like the top bolt is not connected to the starter at all. The bolt labled "stud" which holds the cable routing bracket has to be removed after the bracket and nut are removed.

Also unless you have an air rachet, no normal length tool can be used to break the top bolt loose without removing the fan and shroud, and the stud that holds cable managment bracket. Also the relays and controllers mounted to the rail above the radiator.

After that the exhaust pipes are not really in the way of removal.

AnswerThat top bolt is a real challenge - I assembled about 2 feet worth of socket driver extensions and fed it to the bolt from straight out and to the far right side. This provided lots of swing-room for the ratchet wrench. AnswerDisconnect - side of batteryFollow + battery cable for starter locationLift and secure vehicle if needed for accessRemove 2 bolts securing starterDisconnect wiresSlide starter out of housing Reverse to install

The start is located on the lower part of the 'front' of the engine - the side literally facing the front of the vehicle.

It is located below the front exhaust manifold.

The starter is lower front of engine at the transmission close to the radiator.

AnswerBefore removing the starter for repair or replacement, check the condition of all circuit wiring for damage. Inspect all connections to the starter motor, relay, ignition switch, and battery, including all ground connections. Clean and tighten all connections as seen fit.

Also keep in mind that the heavy gague input lead to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Be careful to ensure the protective cap is installed over the terminal and replaced after service.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Note: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal driveablilty symptoms may occur while the PCM relearns its adaptive strategy. It usually take about 10 miles of driving to relearn it, so take it easy.

2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

3. Disengage the starter cable and the push-on connector from the starter solenoid.

4. Remove the upper and lower retaining bolts, then remove the starter motor from the vehicle.

5. Position the starter motor to the engine , then install the upper and lower retaining bolts finger tight.

6. Tighten the retaining bolts to 15-20 ft. pounds.

7. Engage the starter solenoid connector, making sure to push straight on until it locks into position, you will hear it click.

8. Install the starter calbe nut to the starter solenoid B terminal. Tighten the nut to 80-120 in. pounds, then install the red starter solenoid safety cap.

9. Lower the vehicle, then connect the negative battery cable.

AnswerDisconnect one battery cable. You can disconnect the positive instead of the negative just for fun if you like, but don't arc out.

Jack up the front of the car (and yadda set it on stands, yadda set parking yadda brake.)

The starter is bolted to the engine near the bottom on the side closer to the radiator. This is a very easy one to get to. You may need 13mm and 15mm sockets, both deep and short as well as wrenches of those sizes to remove it. On some cars a 17mm deep may also be required Be careful not to damage the ground strap on the lower mounting stud. This will be the easiest starter you ever replace unless you're using a Pep Boys guaranteed defective prostart brand unit that you'll replace within a few days.

If your transaxle has been replaced by a dimwit or slacktard, the nut on the lower mounting stud may not be removable in place any you may break the ground strap at that stud. If so, DO NOT forget to repair this ground strap.

Wear high quality thick latex gloves that fit well. Keep a few extra gloves and rags handy. If this is a 3.0L engine (not a 3.8L which has blown it's third head gasket by now) the starter will be covered in nasty partially burned oil because every time the filter is removed it drains onto the starter. Keep a few spare gloves handy.

AnswerLook for your oil filter. The starter should be just by where the filter is mounted.I'm looking at a close up picture so I have no idea where this is.

- Disconnect the large cable from the terminal on the starter moter.- Remove the 2 bolts attaching the rear support bracket to remove bracket.- Remove the 2 bolts connecting the starter to the bellhousing. There should be a ground wire attached to the upper bolt.- transmission type: - automatic - remove starter between the radiator and subframe. - manual - remove starter between the subframe and engine.

Answerwhile your answer was good, may i suggest that folks always disconnect the battery first. This is always a good practice to follow anyway in order to prevent an aciccident or blown computer. AnswerStarter id almost dead center (from side to side) just benind the radiator, in the hardest possible location to reach, and it is right next to the oil filter. Ford was kind enough to leave no way to easily remove it, much less install a replacement. Be prepared to remove the fan, etc., and bring lights, extensions, floppy sockets, mirors, or a small child. Good luck.

How do you change a starter on a 2003 Mercury Sable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Just changed the starter in my daughter's '97 Aspire, two days ago. It'll help if you go buy the replacement starter prior to removing the old one. It cost me a little over $100 with a $30 core charge.

First remove the battery. You'll then need a 8mm, 12mm, and 14mm socket.

Remove the two 8mm nuts holding the starter to the bracket.

Remove the two 12mm bolts holding the bracket to the frame. Once their out, you'll have to clear the studs on the starter and pull the bracket out.

Remove the two 14mm bolts that hold the starter to the block(look at replacement starter for position).

Once these two bolts are out, undo the electrical connection (two wires) and the starter will come right out.

Reverse the process for installation.

It took me about 45 minutes to complete.

Putting a aftermarket radio in a 2000 sable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Go to Circuit City and get a harness kit!

You will need the harness kit that is available at Best Buy and other locations. However, my 2001 VW Cabrio did not have a switched +12V source (source that turns on or off with the ignition key). Without a switched +12V source the radio will remain on when the key is removed from the ignition if you have not manually turned the radio off and your battery will be drained. A switched +12V source is available from the rear defroster switch (black and yellow wire). Connect a wire from this switched +12V source to the red wire of the harness kit. You must also cut or remove the red wire from the socket of the wire harness kit because it will be connected to a non-switched +12V source of your car.

Where are the bolts for the starter located on a 1987 Toyota Supra?

The starter is bolted onto the transmission on the driver side. There are two bolts that holds the starter in place. The first bolt is located under the starter which is easy to get. The second bolt is located on the top of the starter which has a tight sqeeze to get to. Most mechanic will drop the transmission or loosen the transmission to get to it. With due respect, if you have small hands, you may be able to reach it.

Where is the water pump located on a Ford Taurus - Mercury Sable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

look for the serpentine belt. this is a belt that has a long trail around many pulleys (power steering pump, alternator, water pump, AC compressor and a tensioner) and is about 1 inch wide give or take a 1/4 inch. your water pump has a hose coming out of it going to the radiator and another smaller one about the thickness of your thumb going to the firewall. The firewall is the sheet metal behind your dashboard. That small hose goes to the heater core so you'll have heat in the cabin area. if you still can't find the water pump back-trace the hoses from your radiator until you come to it. One caveat is that some ford/mercury models have the pump practically built into the engine while others stick out like a sore thumb and are bolted to the side of the engine. You really can't miss as it is the only thing with large rubber hoses attached to it. The only other pump device that runs off of the serpentine belt is the power steering pump. That one is easy to find b/c the rubber hose that goes from the power steering fill-up container should have power steering fluid printed on it. Follow that rubber hose which should be small, and you'll find the steering pump. The only thing left with hoses attached to it is the water pump.

Is there any way to access the Blend Door on a 95 Ford Taurus short of removing the Instrument panel the temp control knob stopped working and you am getting only hot air?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Review "Related Questions" below for much more about Taurus heating/cooling problems, and fixesAnswerUnfortunately no. This is a big and painstaking job. You have to bite the bullet on this one. It costs between $300-$500 buckaroos. The other thing you can do is to cut into the housing.

Note: I do not recommend it. You have to know the precise location of the door, eater core and the a/c evaporator. You may trade the puppy in for something that works. Give it up and spend the money or do it yourself.

Charles

ADDENDUM: You actually can access the blend door itself without removing the dash [I just did it this week end on a 94 Taurus GL with some basic tools and couple of skinned knuckles] ; using a dremel type tool carefully cut an opening in the plenum box, which you can access by removing the center panel of the dash [that holds the radio, change and cup holder]; the part to access [at least for 94 Taurus] is strait back; find the black plastic box [plenum] and cut a rectangular section at the top -- being careful to not cut too high as that is where the louvered door comes down which controls the upper vent function--allow about 1/4-1/2" from upper edge of the plenum] or too low, about 3.5 inches up and down and about 5 inches across will do it and allow you to get your hand in there; once this is done, reach strait back and just to the lower right and that is the blend door [note there are two other "doors" in there which control upper and lower venting--the blend door is vertical in operation and the others are horizontal]; I simply pulled it forward to shut off the cold air which provided much needed heat. To observe what is working turn the vent knob and you will see the other doors going up and down [vacuum controlled so need to have run the engine previously]

Replace section you removed and seal it up [that is what duct tape if for] and replace middle section of the dash.

To access the actuator itself [and perform a real repair] would necessitate painstaking job of removing the whole dash and everything that goes with it, including the steering column; on this model not like the videos in "heater treater" that you can find on UTube; and the door still works just the motor/actuator that went out; this is just a quick fix to get your heat back on [or off, as the case may be] and not likely to be recommended by any self-respecting mechanic!

How do you remove the radio in a 2002 Ford Taurus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are four small holes in radio face. I have removed radio by pushing in two small Allen keys in one side at a time and pull out that side by pushing sideways on Allen keys. Once that side is out slightly pull out the keys and install on other side and repeat pulling out radio. I found if someone else held radio it was fairly easy. Once radio is out just unplug the connections on back side.
