If someone is found with contraband in prison, they could face disciplinary actions such as loss of privileges, isolation, or extended sentence. Additionally, they may face criminal charges depending on the type and amount of contraband found.
It depends on what crime they commited. A callous murderer that is dangerous towards guards or other inmates may only be able to go out in a small fenced in yard to get fresh air and sunshine. For other prisoners they can do weight lifting, sometimes basketball, get an education, watch TV for a certain amount of time; read books; use the computer, etc.
we can make many thing mostly clothes such as jeans and jackets
Two prisoners spent just three days at USP Alcatraz - Frederick Grant White (July 13 - 16, 1934) and Henry Clay "Seminole" Tollett (June 11 - 14, 1951). Tollett was shot in Redding, CA and was suffering from a gunshot wound at admission.
In contrast, Alvin Francis Karpavicz, also known as "Creepy Karpis" spent the longest time at USP Alcatraz - 25 years and one month - from August 6, 1936 to February 24, 1958.
If you do an Internet search for his name, some photos will appear.
The first human occupants were Indian's, who really didn't occupy the island, but harvest eggs from sea birds. In 1846 a lighthouse was to be built. Then in1849 with gold found in California. Everybody was worried that foreign country's would try to take the gold, the army decided to build a cannon battery and citadel. At first it was a military prison during the civil war. Then in 1934 it became a federal penitentiary. In 1963 it was ruled obsolete and dilapidated, and closed.
The federal prison on Alcatraz was closed in 1963. The island became a US historic landmark in 1986.
The U.S Army first used Alcatraz as a military fortress between the 1850s and the 1900s. In 1915, the Army then renamed the island to the Western U.S. Military Prison U.S. Disciplinary Barracks and was used as a holding place for mischievous enlisted personnel. In 1933, the Army left the island and left it in control of the Federal Government for the use of the new Penitentiary.

The "handling of money", mostly payoffs to political and law enforcement people, as well as the general financial management for Al Capone was in the hands of Jake Guzik. Guzik (who owed his life to Capone) was 100% loyal, as well as an excellent business manager, and Capone trusted him completely. In a business where "mobster-kills-mobster" was an everyday occurrence, Guzik died of natural causes while eating dinner at the age of 70. It is frequently said of Jake Guzik that he never carried a gun a day in his life.
a bed, a tiny window and a place where people pee :)
Well for one, Alcatraz housed some of the world's most deadly criminals. Also many of the convicts placed on Alcatraz were masters of escaping. Thus the security had to be up to par so the master escapees would be challenged on how to escape. Now in 1962, three men did sucsessfully escape from Alcatraz. They, on the other hand, were never seen again and were presumed dead by the State Officials. What this has to do with security is the three escapees had to dig through an 8 inch wall of concrete surrounding their cells.
