How do you replace the alternator belt on a 96 geo prizm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Under the front side of the alternator when you are facing the engine from the front. There is a bolt about 10mm. It is long and skinny. Loosen that and eventually it will give the belt the slack it needs. (WARNING : DO NOT LOOSEN ALL THE WAY, i made this mistake and unless you want to cut up your hands getting it back together, just don't)

Then you have to loosen the larger bolt on the very top that the alternator pivots off of.

Once that is done simply pull out the belt(careful to see what tracks it was in first) and slip on the new one.

now tighten the skinny bolt and then the top one and you are done~!

How do you change power steering pressure hose on a 1993 geo prizm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I just had this aggravating repair myself. To start off, I'm going to say I'm a female with little knowledge of cars. What I did was removed the wiper motor and it gave free access to the steering rack. It was relatively easy, just a bit time consuming. I was quoted $170 for this repair plus tax. The hose is 36.99 at autozone. Do it yourself and save some serious cash!

Previous answer:

I just actually did this myself today. The easiest and most likely only way to change it is to, remove the brake proportion valve assembly from the brake booster. then with some patience remove the hose from the rack and pinion with a 18mm wrench. the removal from the reservoir is fairly easy, just use a 3/4" wrench on the hose half and a 5/8" on the solid metal line half. !

How can you set up the clock in 1992 geo prizm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

those one books that come with the car (as long as someone hasn't taken it out) also known as the manual can really come in handy... especially with your question.i don't know off hand which is why i cant answer, but i know the manual tells you

My '96....has the factory Delco radio/cassette unit. On the front panel, on the lower right side, are two push buttons labeled H (for hour) and another labeled M (for minute) These adjust theclock display when you push and hold them for a second or so. The reason for having to hold them,is so a casual bump to the switch won't change the time. You really have to WANT to adjust the clock.

How do remove the starter in a 95 geo prism?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This starter is directly under the fuel injector bar. It is virtually impossible to remove it from below but because you can touch it, that is a temptation. Don't try it! You are going to have to remove the fuel rail to get that starter out. Different shops quote varying prices but I opted for Pep Boys at $ 89.00 plus tax (and that included the rebuilt starter).

How to replace antenna on 1994 Geo Prism?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Just did it... You have to buy an exact OEM replacement. Unscrew the antenna unit by removing the two screws. Pull out the remaining metal antenna and the wire. A plastic tube that houses the antenna will need to be removed. I was unable to remove the antenna cable as it is clipped behind the dash. I cut the wire leaving about 6 inches remaining above the roof of the car. Remove the inside trim along the top of the driverside door, all the way to the fron window. Additionally, remove the small trim piece along the edge of the door beside the drivers side dash. With the new antenna unit, begin to thread the antenna cable through the existing roof opening along-side the original cable that remains. As you thread the cable through the body, take notice of a hole in the body on the inside of the car above the drivers side door. You should see the new cable pass by the hole. Pull the cable through the hole.(I had to enlarge the hole to accomodate the plug that attaches to the radio. I used a dremel tool with a grinding bit to slightly enlarge the hole.) Once you get the antenna cable through the hole, pass the metal antenna and cable through the hole in the roof until you can mount the antenna housing to the roof using the two screws. Run the cable under the door trim and down under the dash. Make sure the new cable does not interfere with your steering wheel or and thnig else. I hope this helps you. I would have loved to see this before taking on this project. I just replaced the antenna on my 1994 Geo Prism and found that only one piece of trim needed to be removed. It is the piece with the fuse box door on the inside drivers side. Once you have it removed you have access to a plug and cable that runs from the antenna to the radio. Unplug the antenna remove the screws on the outside, pull the old antenna and cable out,put the new antenna and cable in, plug it into the cable running to the radio, replace the screws and trim, job done! I followed above answer with one modificarion. Only had to remove fusebox molding. Unscrew antenna from roof.cut antenna wire and leave as much as possible. Pulled out clear plastic piece. Taped end of new antenna wire to end I cut off old antenna wire. Pulled new wire thru and connected to wire that goes to redio. No grinding.

What happens when the neutral safety switch fails?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

By taking it off and testing it for resistance with a digital multimeter.

All the neutral safety switch does is ensure the vehicle will not crank with the key in any other gear position than neutral or park. If you need to start the vehicle before figuring this out, ensure the vehicle is in park (you should also put the parking brake on). Turn your wheels all the way to the left, and put your key in the ON/ACC position. Look under the hood, and you should see where the starter is (in front of the flywheel, typically on the right side of the vehicle). You'll see some posts coming out of the starter with wires attached to them. Use a cable - such as a starter cable or test lead - to apply power to the small post. Be careful to ensure that the cable, your clothing, or any of your body parts are clear of all moving objects before doing this. You can start the vehicle this way, and it will run so long as the key remains in the on position.

How do you remove the dashboard console in a 1995 Geo Prizm to replace the radio?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You have to get a flathead screwdriver and pop it out from above the air conditioner console all the way to the bottom underneath the tray and cigarette lighter. Make sure you unplug the cables from your hazard light (Behind the button with the three red triangles). If you buy a car stereo for your prizm make sure you get the headunit kit for 20 bucks so it fits it will come with a booklet that shows the part of the dash you have to take off. This applies to any geo prizm from 93-97. Also randomness...... back speakers are 6 1/2 inch front are like 4's but I don't think you can buy 4's so get 5.25's and drill new holes.

How do you replace the radio in a 1996 Geo Prism?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First Your Gonna Remove The Dash Trim Molding, Than Remove I Belive Its 3 Screws (One Is Hidden Under The Stereo Itself) From The Stereo Bracket, Pull Out The Stereo, Unclip The Power Dissconnect, And Unplug The Antenna. If You Wanna Reuse The Bracket There Are A Few Screws Holding The Bracket To The Stereo. If You Are Gonna Install An Aftermarket Stereo, Youll Need To Go Buy A Stereo Mounting Kit At Where You Buy The Unit. You'll Also Need To Buy An Antenna Extension. If You Dont Want To Spend The Extra Cash To Get The Adapter For The Power/Speaker Wiring, You Can Go To The12voltdc.com And You Can Find A Wiring Diagram For The Speakers, And The Power Wires. Pretty Much Install Is The Same As Reverse. If Ya Need Any More Help, Email Me At ss101504@yahoo.com.

Why are there so many spanish speakers in the US?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Many Latin Americans immigrate to the United States and the majority of them speak Spanish as their first language.

The US has had immigration from a number of Spanish-speaking areas, notably Latin America (which was colonized by Spain) including Mexico and Puerto Rico (a US commonwealth). The Southwest US especially has many Spanish-speaking residents, some newly arrived but some descended from the original settlers of Greater Mexico in the 17th and 18th centuries.

How does the difference between the dry bulb temperature and the wet bulb temperature to the relative humidity?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When the humidity in the surrounding air is low, the water in the wet cloth wrapped around the bulb of the "wet bulb" thermometer evaporates quicker, giving lower reading on that thermoneter, thus widening the gap between the wet bulb and dry bulb temperatures. The lower the humidity in the air, the quicker the evaporation, the lower the "wet bulb temperature".

the "current" temperature, ie, the temperature at which wet bulb and dry bulb are the same. when the wet bulb and dry bulb temperaturs equalized the dew point emperature equals them, because the air is saturated now.

How do you change the clutch in a 1995 geo prizm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

hire a mechanic! Or if your mechanically inclined here's a brief overview. be forewarned this took me 20 hours with a helper who performed three clutch replacements.Your primary goal is to remove the transmission because the clutch is located between the transmission and the engine block.

Remove the air filter housing, radiator hoses, clutch slave cylinder, vehicle speed sensor, starter, and axle. disconnect any electrical connections on the transmission and also the shifter cable linkage. disconnect the exhaust pipe at the gasket near the bottom of the radiator, and also a bracket near the sub frame. the exhaust blocks access to two of the three engine mounts that you need to remove. first support the engine from above then remove the following engine mounts: first location is under the air filter housing, second is near the bottom of the radiator near the center engine support, third is at the intersection of the exhaust, center engine support, and sub frame. the sub frame must be lowered slightly to remove the engine mount. all the bolts for sub frame are huge and high torque so an impact wrench is highly recommended.

At this time the engine should be fairly loose and you should have access to the transmission. there are three bolts that thread into the transmission bell housing side and four that thread in from the rear of the engine block. remove all. a jack should be used to support the weight of the transmission as you drop it and slide it out from the drivers side of vehicle.

Behold - the clutch! (which will be on the engine ) replace the worn clutch and reassemble everything in reverse. Be sure to replace all your fluids and to bleed the clutch line to the slave cylinder. HAVE FUN!!!

How does a prism work?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

They refract light as the light enters through one side of the prism, at a certain angle, the glass that the prism is made of, decreases the speed of light. And so it bends. Then it hits the other face and emerges out, and that is when the dispersion happens and the white light splits into the spectrum of seven colours
