What is the story of Casanova by Strauss and the nun's chorus?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Nuns' Chorus is an extract from the operetta Casanova by Johann Strauss. Seducteur 'par excellence', soldier, spy, diplomat, writer and adventurer Giacomo Casanova lived in Venice during the 18th century and is known above all for his conquests of women. Worried at the inquiries being made by certain Venetien husbands, he flees the town and we find him in a Bohemian castle where he has been welcomed by the Duke of Waldstein who suggests he should make an inventory of the vast library there. However, our hero is fascinated by his own written works with which he attempts to lure the serving-girl Laura Brock. In this aria and dialogue with the nuns, the soprano cornet tells of the juxtaposition between the devout (chorale) and the attempted seductions of Casanova (waltz).

Did Johann Strauss have children?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No identity if he had children, but I think he didn't.

Strauss married a singer named Henrietta Treffz in 1862, and they remained a couple until her death in 1878. Six weeks after her death, Strauss married an actress named Angelika Dittrich. Dittrich didn't supporter his music much, and their differences in status and opinion etc., and especially her indiscretion, which led him to seek a divorce.

Strauss was not granted a divorce by the Roman Catholic Church, and changed religion and nationality, and became a citizen of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (in January 1887). Strauss sought solace in his third wife Adele Deutsch, whom he married in August 1882. She encouraged his creative work and talent to flow once more in his later years, resulting in many famous compositions.

I tried to search this very interesting, hidden question. This information (I wrote in my own words) will give you a clue who he married. I think he was over-aged (maybe) to have a child.

The theme music from 'The Strauss Family' was arranged, and extended, for the London Symphony Orchestra, by Cyril Ornadel, and is taken from the Finale, Act 1, of "Eine Nacht in Venedig" ("A Night In Venice"). The theme appears twice in the Finale, in the song "Komm nur, liebes Kind - Mit der Wuerde", and by the name 'Lagunen-Waltz' ('Lagoon Waltz'), albeit it very briefly.

The original operetta by Johann Strauss Jr. was arranged by Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Ernst Marischka. It is available on the following CD:
