My suggestion is to take your voltmeter, measure the voltage between the center

pin and shell of the cigarette lighter socket in the car, and note the polarity there.

The shell is the grounded side of the lighter socket.

How do you get to the tail light in a 2000 Honda Passport to replace the bulb?

User Avatar

Asked by Yumasan

I asked this question, now I'll try to answer it. There are two screws on the outside of the cover and there is at least one under the bumper area to unscrew. Then the cover needs to be pryed off and then you simply twist the bulb holder off and replace the bulb.

It's not really a Honda. Search under Isuzu Rodeo.

Changing a tail light on the Passport/Rodeo isn't really as difficult as I have seen some people make it out to be. I have a 2000 Passport, so I'm assuming that most other years for the Passport/Rodeo are similar. To change the bulb you have to remove the rear light fixture. You DO NOT have to remove anything on the interior of the vehicle. There are three screws to get the fixture off. The first two are on the side of the fixture in the small recesses that look like vents in the lights. They are diffuclt to see, but if you look closely, they're right there. Take them out. The third screw is located on the rear of the car, between the bumper and the fixture. It's hard to see without a flashlight. Loosen the screw until it turns very easily and gently pull back and up on the fixture. The assembly should slide right out. There is a pressure fit plastic piece that lines up the fixture. Be careful not to snap it like I did. After that, it's easy. Remove the snap fit electrical supply to the fixture and you're home free. Change the bulb and you're done. Getting that bottom third screw back in can be tricky. I found it easiest to put the screw back in and cover it with a thin piece of tape to hold it in place. Once the fixture is lined up you can secure the sides and screw the bottom in by puncturing the tape with the screwdriver. Took me an hour to figure it out the first time, took five minutes the next.

How do you change the front brakes on a 2005 kia Rio?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

1.Put front of vehicle on jack stands. Brace back wheels

2. Remove front wheel.

3. Using the C-Clamp squeeze the caliper so the piston goes back inside the caliper.

4. Using the 9/16 socket undo the 2 bolts that go through a rubber boot. There's one on the top of the caliper and the other one is the bottom of the [brake caliper. The reason I said not to use a deep socket is that the torsion bar link is kinda in the way so you can't fit a deep socket in there.

5. Once the 2 bolts are removed, remove the wire retaining clips. One wraps around the top pin that holds the brake pads together and the other clips onto the top and bottom pin. Remove the one that goes from the top pin to the bottom pin. You will not be able to take the other one out just yet.

6. Using your center punch or screw driver tap both pins out of the caliper. You will at this point be able to remove the other wire retaining clip.

7. At this point the caliper should be loose and you should be able to remove it. If you are just changing the brake pads then you're half way done. Replace old pads with new pads and reassemble in the reverse order.

8. If you are replacing the rotors as well then all you need to do is loosen both Phillips head screws that are holding the rotors to the hub. Be careful with the screws I happened to strip the head on one of these babies and let me tell ya it wasn't easy taking it out. Once the screws are removed the rotor should come right off. Might need a hammer to persuade it a little.

9. Install new rotor and brake pads and you are done.

It took me roughly 1 hour to do the brake job.

All in all it's a fairly straight foward brake job.

Why does your 2001 Kia Rio use so much gas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

you havent changed any of the following :

the *air filter

*oil +filter

*gas filter

*spark plugs

*tire pressure

*the normal unlead gas you buy and don't buy fuel aditives to mix with it

* the amount of crap you keep in your car that doesnt need to be there cause your too lazy to move it

I fill my 2001 Kia Rio from empty for only 14.00 and go nearly 300 miles on that. There is definitely something wrong if you don't get wonderful gas mileage.

How do you install subwoffer in 2006 Kia Rio 5?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Thre are several different methods first assuming you have an aftermarket head unit, one option would be a custom enclosure, that could be built from MDF and an amp space could be included in the design. There are many sites on the web that are devoted to enclosure design based on the type/brand you have the manufacturer usually recommends a specific amount of air space . Its not difficult as most lumber suppliers will custom cut the pieces you need for about a buck a cut,all that's left is to assemble cover and mount. Good luck!

ANSWER

  • Locate your KIA's VIN through the lower-right corner of the windshield, if you're looking at it from the outside. It's etched on a metal plate bolted to the dash.

  • Interpret the first digit, which will be a K, as the country of manufacture, Korea.

  • Interpret the second digit, which will be an N, as the indicator that the car is a KIA.

  • Interpret the third digit as the vehicle type. For 2008 models, the CAR all have letter A, for "passenger car." D stands for "multi-purpose vehicle."

  • Interpret the fourth digit as the model. For 2008 models, D=Rio, F=Spectra or Rondo, G=Optima, L=Amanti, J=Sportage or Sorento, and M=Sedona.

  • Interpret the fifth digit as the series. For the 2008 model year, B in a Sedona means 4x2. D in an Amanti means front-wheel drive, front engine. E in an Optima, Rio, Rio5, Spectra or Spectra5 means front-wheel drive, front engine. G in a Rondo means front-wheel drive, front engine. C in a Sorento means 4-by-4. D in a Sorento means 4x2. E in a Sportage means 4x4. F in a Sportage means 4x2.

  • Interpret the sixth and seventh digits as the body type. For the 2008 model year, 12 is a sedan four-door. 16 is a hatchback four-door. 52 is a wagon. 13 is a short wheelbase, four-door van. 23 is a long wheelbase four-door van. For the trucks, the sixth digit is 7, for "four-door SUV." The seventh digit for trucks breaks down as follows: & has no meaning, 2 means the truck weighs between 4,006 and 4,994 pounds, and 3 means it weighs 4,995 to 5,984 pounds.

  • Interpret the eighth digit as the engine type. For model year 2008, the cars all have active seat belts with dual air bags (front and side) and dual head curtain airbags for both front and back passengers. A 1 and 2 mean 4-cylinder, 2.0 liter. A 3 means 4-cylinder, 1.6L. A 4 means 6-cylinder 2.7L. A 5 means 4-cylinder 2.4L or 6-cylinder 3.8L. A 6 means 6-cylinder 2.7L. In the Sedona, the code is 3, and translates to 6-cylinder, 3.8L without air bags. In the Sorento and Sportage, 3, 5 and 6 are 6-cylinder engines. A 4 is a 4-cylinder. A 3 and 4 have dual air bags. a 5 and 6 don't have air bags. A 3 means 2.7L. A 4 means 2.0L. A 5 means 3.3L. A 6 means 3.8L.

  • Ignore the ninth digit. This is merely a check code internal to KIA.

  • Interpret the 10th digit as the model year. A stands for 1980, B stands for 1981 and so on. Because I, O, Q, U and Z look like numbers, they aren't used for model year. Therefore, Y stands for 2000 and 1 stands for 2001. 9 stands for 2009 and A stands for 2010, starting the alphabet all over.

  • Interpret the 11th digit as the assembly plant location. There are five plant locations, not including the new West Point, Georgia, plant. A 1 is the Hwaseong plant in Hwaseong, S. Korea, and 2 is the Kwang-Ju plant in Gwangju, S. Korea. A 3 is the Sohari plant in Gwangmyeong, S. Korea, and 4 is the Seosan plant in Seosan, S. Korea. A 5 is the Slovakian plant.

  • Interpret the last six characters as a count of the vehicles rolling off the assembly line. These ensure the VIN is unique to each car.

How do you change Kia front wheel bearings?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

the socket you need to change or tighten the wheel bearings on kias is not available to the public. solve this problem first then worry about details. ---- (Ownes a 1999 4x4 Sportage) The Special Socket is not a mandatory requirement! On the 4x4 model; you would remove the six 10mm bolts holding the Locking Hub to the Wheel Hub. There are two screws which hold the Set Plate onto the wheel bearing Set Nut. Once you remove that plate; the nut should be able to be removed fairly easily or on the nuts circular edge there are notches where you can use a drift punch to tap the nut free. * I will post the bearing and seal part numbers at a later date. Dan P.

This isn't that hard of a job. It will require some careful hands, though. After romving the wheel, you will remove the brakes. The rotor comes off with 2 screws. I used a hand-help impact driver and a small rubber mallet to dislodge the screws. You will them CAREFULLY pry off the bearing cover. After that, you will pry out the seals and remove the bearings.

You will either; 1. Clean and re-pack your old bearings or... 2. Install new bearings (bought all four front bearings, and seals, for $112 at auto parts store) Either way, you will need to change the seals. Than, CAREFULLY tap bearing cover into place. Re-install brakes, and wheels, and you're done. Good luck!

Where is the air filter on a Kia Rio?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

What year and engine? Also engine air filter or cabin air filter?

answer

  • Open the hood of the Rio and locate the air filter's casing, which you'll see near the center-top of the engine. The air filter casing is a large, black plastic case.

  • Open the plastic housing case by using a flat head screwdriver to unhook each clip around the perimeter of the case. Once all the clips are unhooked, the case should open easily and reveal the air filter.

What should the psi be for the tires on a 2008 kia Rio 5?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Typically, it is written on the inside of the door frame of the drivers side of the car, but as an example:

My 2008 Kia Spectra has the following tire sizes: 195/60R15, which indicates not only the tire circumference, but the width of the tire as well. My tire size is 15 inches. The typical tire pressure for this size of tire is 30 psi, for the front and back tires. Sometimes and depending on the size of the tire, the pressure differs from the front to the back, but not in this case, as all 4 tires are the same size.

30 psi is a good guess for your vehicle as well, if the tires are 15's, if they are 14's then open your drivers side door, and look at the main upright frame post between the front and back door to view the tire sizes and psi requirements.
