One Wikianswer's contributors opinion: 76000 each wife and 76000 for Cody.
Meri, Christine, and Robyn are not related. However, Janelle was previously married to Meri's brother and her mother is married to Kody's father. So that makes her Kody's stepsister and previously Meri's sister in law.
Meri Brown and Kody Brown are getting a legal divorce. Though Kody Brown is spiritually married to all four of his wives, he only has a marriage license and a legal marriage with Meri, his first wife.
Meri decided to pursue a divorce from Kody so that Kody could move forward with the process of adopting the children that his fourth wife, Robyn, brought into the family from her first marriage. Kody could only become the legal father of Dayton, Aurora, and Breanna if he and Robyn were legally married.
After Kody and Meri got legally divorced, Kody and Robyn were legally married. The legal status of the marriage does not affect the marriage in the eyes of the Browns' church. Meri and Kody are still married to each other spiritually, which matters more to them. Meri is not leaving the family.
He is only legally married to one, the others were married to him in a religious ceremony, not a legal one. How that happened is they all met him and liked him and were willing to share him with other wives.
Not necessarily. When TLC pays the families that star in their reality shows, they just write out one check and hand it to the head of the household. In this case, that check is made out to Kody Brown. Kody can then divide the money however he chooses, whether that be equally dividing the money four ways and handing it to each wife, dividing the money based on the number of children and handing it out to the wives, depositing it into one shared bank account and giving everyone access to it, or dividing it into bank accounts for the kids.
New episodes of Sister Wives will start airing in May 2013.
For the protection of him and his family, as well as the company he works for, he will not publically release the name of the company. We do know that he works in the advertising/marketing industry.
Yes. Bigamy (polygamy) is illegal in every state in the United States. Although Kody is only legally married to Meri (Christine, Janelle, and Robyn married him in religious ceremonies without a legal marriage license), in most states the bigamy law states that 'purporting' to be married or cohabiting with multiple women also counts as Bigamy.
There is no public information on how much Kody Brown and his family are paid for 'Sister Wives." Compensation for reality TV shows can vary wildly from a mere pittance to $250,000 an episode for "Kate Plus 8' and a cool million for "Sarah Palin's Alaska."
A best guess would be somewhere under $50,000 per episode.
Since they are buying 4 new homes, it is believed they are making 100, 000 per estimate since their whole family requires a lot of logistics. Even though many don't practice their lifestyle, most can agree their family values and dynamics are quite interesting. They are making money on books, business deals, etc
No. The Brown Family are members of the Apostolic United Brethren. Kody and Janelle grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the 'Mormon' Church) but left because of their belief in and desire to practice polygamy (the Mormon Church banned polygamy nearly 125 years ago). The Apostolic United Brethren is an offshoot of the Mormon Church and continues many of the same beliefs and practices, including belief in the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith.
TLC typically does not release it's shows online. You can see some extras and scenes from the show on their website, but not full episodes. The only place to see the episodes is actually on TV. If you have comcast cable, season 3 episodes are available on On Demand for the first few weeks after they air, but are deleted after 3 or 4 weeks.
In the future, Sister Wives season 3 will probably be released on DVD.
The family featured in the reality TV show 'Sister Wives" lived in Lehi, Utah, 33 miles south of Salt Lake City.
In early 2011, they moved to the Las Vegas area. The family was concerned about legal problems related to their polygamist lifestyle.
Kody Brown and his family, stars of TLC's reality show are currently being investigated by Utah law enforcement on charges of bigamy by cohabitation, which is a felony in the state of Utah. If they are found guilty and prosecuted, they will each face at least 5 years in prison.
There are thousands of polygamist families in Utah, and because there are so many, the state doesn't have the time, money and other resources to prosecute all the polygamists. Generally a family is only investigated on bigamy charges if there has been a complaint or report of abuse, rape, or underage marriage. A case like this usually comes up in Utah every few years. In the case of the Browns, the state and much of the public in the community have known of their lifestyle for quite some time, but it was not until they decided to flaunt their illegal activities (and the fact that they have not been prosecuted) on national television that the state decided to investigate.
The fact of the matter is, thousands of polygamists in Utah will never be prosecuted or investigated by law enforcement so long as they stay quiet. This is because crimes that actually hurt people, like murder, abuse, rape, drugs, and robberies are considered more important. The state doesn't have the money or manpower to investigate and try all the polygamists, nor do they have the facilities to house the tens of thousands of children which will become wards of the state for years while their parents are jailed.
Another important reason why the Browns are not being prosecuted is the Supreme Court's June 2003 decision in Lawrence v. Texas, which decriminalized all private adult consensual intimacy, not just gay sex. If the law enforcement community pushes adult bigamy prosecutions, it risks setting up a test case which will affirm that the Lawrence decision applies to polygamy, thus fully decriminalizing it nationwide.

No. The Sister Wives on TLC have never claimed to be sisters, and they are not sisters, nor are they legally or genetically related in any way. They are Sister Wives - that is a title used to refer to women who share a husband, not to women who share a father or mother.
Meri worked with at-risk youths and is planning to go back to school to finish her bachelor's degree. Janelle was the VP of a company in Lehi and appears to normally work in finance. Christine is a SAHM, as is Robyn. Kody is in sales.
No. The Brown family from 'Sister Wives' does not recieve government financial assistance.
Christine has expressed that she feels Kody spends more time with Robyn and that this makes her jealous. The other wives have said that they aren't really jealous of her and they feel that the arrangements are as equal as possible. Kody explained that he actually prefers larger women and so Robyn is at a disadvantage when it comes to her slim figure. The wives have said that they aren't jealous of her figure.
