How do you change a speedometer on a Peugeot 106?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have a "N" reg 1996 106 1.5 Diesel, and the speedo developed an intermittent fault, I changed the speedo sensor but that did not repair the problem. I was quoted over £160 for a replacement speedo from my local dealer and I recently purchased the car for only £450 so that not economically viable. I purchased a complete dash with the speedo, fuel gauge, clock etc from Ebay from a car breaker for only £12 delivered!

You will need a spline key set, these are similar to Allen keys but have spline heads, Halfords or car part shops sell these for about £10 a set, you will NOT be able to remove the screws without these they are essential.

1) Using a Philips type screwdriver remove the 3 screws holding the 2 piece ignition shroud together these are located just under the steering wheel, you only need to remove the top section for access, leave the bottom section in situ.

2) Using the spline key remove the 3 screws holding the piece of trim around the instrument cluster, 1 at the top, 2 either side, don't loose the screws!

3) You will now see another 2 screws holding the instrument cluster either side at the bottom, these are a little awkward to reach though, using the spline key also remove these.

4) Now the instrument cluster will now pull out, be careful now as you do not want to damage any of the wiring or push on connectors.

5) As the instrument panel starts to come free, you will see the wiring and push on connectors, at the back of the push on connectors are white coloured securing lugs, these have to be pushed forward to allow the connectors to pull off.

6) Remove all the push on connectors from memory I had 4, and the instrument panel will now come out with a little bit of jiggling around.

7) Replacement is just a reverse order, please don't forget to check everything is working by turning on the ignition BEFORE replacing trim, screw etc.

Estimated removal time less than 1 hour, good luck,

Steve

TDC timing marks 1986 Toyota MR2?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The left most notch is 0 BTDC, the middle notch is 10 BTDC, the right most is 14 BTDC for automatic, or 16 BTDC for manual trans.
The indicator is a pin sticking out of the timing cover above the crank pulley.
Put a jumper wire between T and E1 on the Diagnostic connector and adjust the distributer for 10 BTDC.
Remove the jumper and the timing should advance to the rightmost mark, or a little farther.

Would a Toyota supra engine fit in a 93 Toyota MR2?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Nope, not even close. Even though you did not specify what year Supra, most people know of the 2JZ (actuallly called the 2JZ-GTE) from the FastNFurious first movie. The 2JZ is an INLINE 6 displacing 3.0L and has sequential Twin Turbos.

The main problem with fitting it into the 93 MR2 is that the MR2 was designed for a transversely mounted 4 cylinder. The base 4 cylinder in the MR2 is the 5S-FE from the same era of Camry. The MR2 Turbo used the 3S-GTE from the earlier Celica All-Trac.

Transversely mounted 6 cylinder Toyota engines happen to fit. The 3VZ-FE from the Camry/ES300 fits, as does the 1MZ-FE from the same car. Interestingly, the 5VZ-FE from the Tacoma will fit as well.

The Supra 2JZ-GTE is 6 cylinders long and was mounted longitudinally in the Supra. If you turn it sideways to try to fit into the MR2, the engine bay is not nearly wide enough. You also have to find a transaxle that can take the torque of the 2JZ, which would kill the stock MR2 or MR2 Turbo transaxles, and you need whatever transaxle you use to bolt up to the 2JZ, or you willl need an adaptor plate, which makes the problem even worse. You would discover that cylinders 1 and 2 and the crank pulley would be out in the right fender well, and you would have no room for suspension or a wheel.

In a certain special circumstances, a V8 will fit as well, but not a Toyota V8. A V8 is about 4 cylinders long (slightly longer due to cylinder staggering), but if you find a short enough V8, it will fit the MR2 chassis with minimal cutting or clearancing. http://www.MV8R.com is a site where he put a V8 into a 1991 MR2 which is the same as a 1993. He also has a 1993 MR2 Turbo.

What does code p1349 mean for 2001 Toyota Echo?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You really need to take it to the dealer to be properly diagnosed - they might be able to fix this for free, as there is a technical service bulletin related to this error code:

Engine - MIL ON/DTC 1349 Set

ENGINE

EG009-03

May 19, 2003

M.I.L. "ON" DTC P1349 - VVTi ACTUATOR

Models:

'00 - '02 Corolla, Celica, MR2 Spyder, and ECHO

Under certain conditions customers may experience a MIL "ON" condition with DTC P1349 indicating a variable valve timing (VVTi) malfunction. In some cases, the cause of this DTC may be the VVTi actuator.

If your VIN is before JTDDY3#T20056831

It looks like they replaced the camshaft/camshaft timing sprocket.

If that isn't it, then in general P1349 is a misfire or ignition issue under most general OBD-II - but Toyota spec'd OBD-II has it as a VVT malfunction. Unfortunantly - hard to tell which it is. Might be the ignition timing set too advanced (VVT-i issue) or low fuel pressure (bad or clogged injector, bad or low flowing fuel pump/regulator). An emissions test could tell you which one it is. If you want to try a quick fix on your own, I'd start with the basics, change the spark plugs, air filter, and maybe the pcv valve, all these are cheap and easy. Other things could cause the problem though, so if the quick fixes don't work, I'd lean toward the injectors.

Seafoam and other additives are very good solvents that can help clean the injectors - but may not be strong enough to clean off these injectors. Injector cleaning services generally don't work that well - best way is to have these cleaned ultrasonically or replaced (very costly).
