Michelle Obama is the first African-American First Lady. She was born and raised in Chicago, one of two children. Her father Frasier Robinson III had multiple sclerosis, but despite often being in pain and having difficulty walking, he never missed a day of work and set an example for supporting his family. Michelle has often spoken of how much she admired him. Both Frasier and Marian Robinson (Michelle's mom) encouraged their two children to study and to achieve. Both Michelle and her brother Craig graduated from good colleges and went on to have successful careers.

Michelle graduated from Princeton and then got a Law Degree from Harvard. While working at a prestigious law firm in Chicago, she met a young legal intern named Barack Obama. They eventually began dating and married in 1992. Michelle had a successful career as a lawyer, and then as a hospital administrator and fundraiser. She became known for her support of worthy causes, especially those that helped young girls to get an education. She ultimately gave up her career to support her husband Barack's entrance into politics, and to raise their two daughters. Today, Michelle is known for her work fighting against childhood obesity; she also encourages urban gardening, and advocates for military families.

Her nickname in the family was Miche ( pronounced meesh); as a young girl, she played the piano so much she had to be told to stop; she and her brother skipped the second grade; when she was little, she shared a room with her older brother Craig; she was in the national honor society throughout high school; she became a lawyer; while working for a law firm, she was asked to mentor a new lawyer, a young man named Barack Obama; she has a cousin in Chicago who is a rabbi; as First Lady (the first African-American first lady), she organized a campaign to fight childhood obesity called "Lets move!"
