Here is a good thing to do:
go to craigslist.org
go to the housing section
search for "credit -background -criminal"
This will bring up a list of all the postings that have credit in them but not background or criminal. In theory, these rentals would not do a background check, but just because they don't say they will do a background check doesn't necessarily mean they won't
addendum. Felon friendly housing is incredibly difficult to find (sorry i know that's not the answer you are looking for). Search in craigslist for "felon friendly" not just credit/criminal. You may consider also putting in an ad yourself searching for housing. Be upfront. You don't want to waste your time. You may just end up having to rent a room in someone's house, which a lot of us end up having to do. Network network network. Depending on what your felony was...if it was addiction related & you have proof that it was & did some kind of rehab. You will want to bring it up as a "disability" reasonable accommodation request. Not a guarantee I don't think. But a better chance & definitely worth bringing up. Read about fair housing laws.
