The rotor was probably not installed correctly, and it rubbed against the cap. The rotor should be pressed completely down. Make sure the cap is seated correctly on the distributor and clipped on securely, as it could cause the rubbing if it is misaligned.
Just put a 009 distributor in if the weights are coming apart,or the bushings have too much play, can buy for under 100 dollars!
you need to look for wear marks in distrubuter and find out where the shavings come from do not keep driving till it is fixed shavings can fall down the guts of distributer and do more damage
Yes!!! Oils contains a metal shavings but it is not harmful...
Use a magnet. Metal shavings will be attracted to the magnet and pepper will not.
It is the distributor. If you remove the distributor cap, rotor and cover plate, you will find metal shavings around the shaft and bearings. You can remove these shavings with compressed air and a pencil magnet. Spray a small amount of white lithium grease around the bearings and reassemble.
Why is there metal shavings in my 220K kilo Honda accord tranny? Do i repair or replace it?
Metal shavings are never good inside any transmission.

some metal in pan is ok.

A small amount of shavings is normal. That is why there is a magnet inside the pan to collect the shavings. A large amount or large pieces of metal is not normal and will require a professional to diagnosis. It it has run good and has not had shifting problems, or strange noises, then it is most likely fine. I just rebuilt my son's 4T60E transmission for that very problem. I found two sources of the metal shavings: The teeth on the reverse reaction drum (stove pipe) and the spyders for the differential in the final drive carrier were in the process of shelling out. Chuck Check to see if there is a recall on your transmission.
