kudzu was brought over from Japan to prevent erosion during WWII. It is found mostly in the deep south, which was planted by farmers to prevent their soil from disappearing due to the makeup of the red clay soil in the south. Kudzu cannot be killed successfully unless you burn it, or put chemicals on it 10-20 times.
It has destroyed acres upon acres of land by choking out trees and other plants.
