Winfrey was nominated for a competitive Oscar for her film debut in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of "The Color Purple" (1985). The talk show host earned a Best Supporting Actress nod for her peformance as Sofia in the film based on Alice Walker's novel.

She has also received an Oscar nomination as a producer of "Selma," nominated for Best Picture of 2014.
