In rare cases migraine headaches can cause a stroke. This is not seen is common migraine, or migraine without an aura. Migraine with aura, particularly when the migraines are frequent and long in duration, and have a prolonged aura, are those who have this slightly higher risk. The risk is raised further when you use birth control, smoke, or live a sedentary lifestyle - all of which raise your risk of stroke normally.

It is much more likely that migraine would result in an indirect cause of death, such as visual problems causing a car accident.

Always seek emergency help if it is the worst headache of your life.

If you have a migraine that has lasted longer than 72 hours, be seen by your doctor, urgent care, or emergency department as soon as possible. Regardless of the slight risk of stroke, it is very important to break the cycle of intractable migraine - or you may find yourself in a constant state of pain.

Frequent migraines by themselves cannot cause death, but they can stop a person from living their life in any meaningful way by incapacitating them.

However, it should be noted that in extremely rare cases people who suffer from migraine with aura end up having a stroke. Again - this is a rare occurrence.

Migraine headaches aren't deadly in themselves... It really depends on the reason for the migraine. If you have a brain tumor etc.. then a migraine could be one of the symptoms, but Migraines are not deadly. The chance of the cause of your migraines being the result of a brain tumor is EXTREMELY rare.

It is possible to have a stroke which leads to death caused by a migraine.

Migraines are caused by blood vessels or parts of the brain swelling, depending on the type of migraine you get. My are frontal sinus, and are caused by swelling of both the blood vessels and tissues in the sinus cavity.

I highly recommend seeing a doctor if you are having migraines. Besides being a pain (no pun intended) they can be dangerous.

Are migraines bad for you?

A migraine, although debilitating and incapacitating, is not bad for you. Frequent migraines can impact your entire life - causing absences that can lead to problems with school, or problems with maintaining employment. It can also cause issues due to making it harder to be a member of a family unit. Frequent migraines with aura have been shown to increase stroke risk, as well as risk for heart disease and clots. These problems have been described as rare, but it is there. Some people who have frequent migraines with aura sometimes also experience white matter lesions of the brain. There are no studies to indicate what kind of problems they would cause. If you are having more than two migraines a month, you can see a neurologist to try preventative medication to lower the numbers of migraines you have.
