I am pregnant as well and found this information online, hope it helps! I would ask your doctor about it just to be safe though. Many women first develop varicose veins or find that they get worse during pregnancy. As your uterus grows, it puts pressure on the large vein on the right side of your body (the inferior vena cava), which in turn increases pressure in the leg veins. Veins are the blood vessels that return blood from your extremities to your heart, so the blood in your leg veins is already working against gravity. The amount of blood in your body increases when you're pregnant, adding to the burden on your veins. And your progesterone levels rise, causing the walls of your blood vessels to relax. You're more likely to get varicose veins if other members of your family have had them. Being overweight, carrying twins or higher multiples, and standing for long periods can also make you more susceptible. The good news is that varicose veins tend to improve after you give birth. Well okay your telling me that the chance of this being pregnancy is low and that it is due to genetics or something else. Okay, I love these little know it alls that just think that they are doctors, and say that there is no possible way for it to be what it is. I took a test and wullah I am and my doctor says that this is very normal in pregnancy and a lot of smaller women like myself have it immediately in pregnancy. Before you go telling someone that more than likely it is from something else GO GET A P.H.D. These questions are intended for those with the same problem or whom have already had experience in the subject. Not those of you who think you know all and try to be a doctor. Oh yeah and I forgot to add, no one in my family has vericose veins either, I am a house wife, and I am up and down all day to the long period of siting/standing, etc...whatever you had said.
Swollen feet and ankles after suffering through a miscarriage are caused by hormones. These same hormones that are occurring during the pregnancy contribute to water retention.
If your ankles and body are swollen and retaining water, this could mean that your kidneys are not working properly. This also happens during pregnancy, and sometimes when a person gets too hot.
Elasticated ankles are, clothing that have an elastic finishing at the ankles.
Genetics..out of your control.
It is safe but in the last trimester, avoid having the massage done on your ankles and lower legs as this can cause you to go into labor occasionally.
