Yeah, very very fast
yes if you love fast messaging but if not its not a good phone for you
Flipout is available from At&T, but they do need a data plan. This is an older phone you may want to go with a newer phone for support reasons. You can find unlocked phones but I found no support for other carriers for these.
Yes the Motorola Droid can download apps for the Motorola app store not the apple store.
Motorola has a great selection of touch screen phones. Some of these models are the Flipout, Backflip, Droid Smart, CLIQ MB 200 and the Motoming A1. They come in all price range.

The Android platform on the Motorola Flipout allows for a wide selection of keyboard options. The first step is to find and install some new multitouch keyboards which can be found throughout the internet. Next click on the Applications launcher, scroll over and press Settings. In the settings menu, select Language & Keyboard. If a custom keyboard is installed, there will be an option to toggle it on with a check box. Tap on Input Method next, find the name of the keyboard to activate, tap on it then press the Home button.
