Has the chess-master defeated the chess machine or the chess machine's programmer when he beats the machine?

Answer:
I'd say he has beaten the programmer because a machine is only as good as the information put into it so if the programmer is flawed then the program and therefore the machine is flawed because it has a lack of information or information that is not sophisticated enough to handle the task..
