The Giant Panda has been known to attack humans, although it is rare. There have been a few cases at some Zoos where a Panda grabbed a person's leg, or jacket through the bars. There are even reports of cases where people have purposely gotten in the enclosures with the Giant Pandas. The Panda is a wild bear, falling into or walking into their territory is a serious threat, there is no way to predict what their response will be. But they have attacked people when they felt threatened and when someone they didn't know approached them, or grabbed them. Some recent attacks have been called frustration attacks. The Panda was either trying to sleep, and the crowds were unusually loud, or a new addition to the enclosure, or some other stress may have triggered the behavior. The attacks are not common, and it would seem that many times they are brought on by the Giant Panda being left unsupervised, and people taking risks they should consider carefully first. No one should ever reach into the cage, or enclosure of any wild animal.
No. Not unless provoked or surprised. It is best to leave them alone, because even a rabbit will attack if it feels threatened.
Yes two years ago a 20 year old male (now 22) climbed into a panda cage after being warned not to, trying to get a hug from the panda, the panda bit his arms and legs.
