This is a question I would like more info on. Is he rushing to his family's aid or do you just feel left out during family events? Keep in mind, these are people who he has known and loved his entire life. They helped make him into the man he is and will be in the future. Cut him some slack and try to approach him with much more detailed questions. For example, "During family outings, I feel left out because your family is always cracking inside jokes that I don't understand. Is there anything we can do so that I don't feel so out of the loop?"
