yes, herpes comes with a rash. now the rash is not specific to herpes but it gives you a clue. the charateristic of the herpes rash is the distribution. first the nature of the rash. the rash is called vesicular. so its erythematous (red) and filled with clear fluid, it is itchy and some times painful. however, this maybe any other type of rash. the distinctive feature of herpes rash is like i said, the distribution. every time herpes has a flair up it would appear in the same place, along a dermatome (distribution of a particular nerve). so if you find a red clear filled rash that is localized to one area (lets say the lower back or face) then its most probably herpes, and if it keeps occurring in that place, then all the more your sure its herpes. P.S this is not the case for herpes zoster a.k.a shingles yes, herpes comes with a rash. now the rash is not specific to herpes but it gives you a clue. the charateristic of the herpes rash is the distribution. first the nature of the rash. the rash is called vesicular. so its erythematous (red) and filled with clear fluid, it is itchy and some times painful. however, this maybe any other type of rash. the distinctive feature of herpes rash is like i said, the distribution. every time herpes has a flair up it would appear in the same place, along a dermatome (distribution of a particular nerve). so if you find a red clear filled rash that is localized to one area (lets say the lower back or face) then its most probably herpes, and if it keeps occurring in that place, then all the more your sure its herpes.
