Christianity teaches that we should love all people, and do good to all people, regardless of their belief or unbelief. The Koran says "Slay them wherever you find them...Idolatry is worse than carnage...Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme." (Surah 2:190-) and "Seek out your enemies relentlessly." (Surah 4:103-) and "Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51) and "Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme." (Surah 8:36-) and "...make war on the leaders of unbelief...Make war on them: God will chastise them at your hands and humble them. He will grant you victory over them..." (Surah 9:12-) and "Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:27-) and "Prophet make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home." (Surah 9:73). There are other such examples of this teaching in the Koran, and history has shown that zealous Moslems do believe in fighting and killing those who do not share their faith. Of course not all modern Moslems believe nor act this way. There are plenty of Moslems who believe in allowing other people to make their own decisions about faith. But their own Koran teaches otherwise.
Besides the point within The Bible, let's look at what happened in history!
Christians mass murder Jews through Holocaust.
Christians mass murder Muslims through Crusades.
Christians killing the people who did not convert to Christianity in Africa, South America, Asia, and North America.
Everything the Christians have done to "love everyone" was to Convert or Die.
Doesn't seem too tolerant to me.
The Quran (and all other Holy Books of all faiths) teaches tolerance;
There is no compulsion in religion. 2:256,
It is wrong to oppress people 42:42.
Live peacefully with disbelievers. 43:88-89. Let each person believe (or disbelieve) whatever he or she wishes. 109:1, 6.
For balance, (the first poster wrote only of the Quran) here's some of what the Bible teaches in intolerance.
"the children of the kingdom [the Jews] shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."Matthew 8:12
Jesus tells his disciples to keep away from the Gentiles and Samaritans, and go only to the Israelites. Matthew 10:5-6
Cities that neither "receive" the disciples nor "hear" their words will be destroyed by God. It will be worse for them than for Sodom and Gomorrah. (see Genesis 19:24). Matthew 10:14-15
Any city that doesn't "receive" the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11
Jesus says that those that believe and are baptized will be saved, while those who don't will be damned. Mark 16:16
Jesus says that entire cities will be violently destroyed and the inhabitants "thrust down to hell" for not "receiving" his disciples.Luke 10:10-15
The "wrath of God" is on all unbelievers.John 3:36
Opinion; It's the Zealots (of any religion) that is intolerant of disbelievers.
Most Christians teach that if gay people pursue love and sexual fulfillment, they are sinners. Some Christians show a more accepting, tolerant viewpoint. Most Christians teach that if gay people pursue love and sexual fulfillment, they are sinners. It was only tolerant to Trinitarian Christians (which meabs that under the Bill of Rights,it was an intolerrant act).
Islam does not teach killing of any innocent human being irrespective his caste, color or religion. Waging war against unbelievers is permitted only if they wage war against the Muslims. Killing of one innocent person is considered like killing all humans according to the teachings of the holy Qur'an.
Yes, historically grecian people have always been open and interested in learning about different theologies and philosophies.
Christians are the most tolerant to other religions due to its founder who taugh them to be that way. Christians who enter arguments and fights on religious believes do not fully understand the teachings of Jesuspeople who are christain tolerate their own religion. duh. a histrical average would put christains as intolerant of other religions...burned down libraries, killed poeple etc. because of not being christain enough. many poeple today claim to be christian but do not really follow the bibles rules. they say they are religious becasue their parents were. these people are now tolerant of other religions but are not real Christians and in my experience are the majority of people claiming to be Christians. True christians if there are any are not tollerent of other religionsWEll, PEOPlE WhO ARE ChRiStiANity dO tOlERANt tHEiR REliqiON bECAUSE SOME ChRiStiAN'S qO tO ChURCh, SOME RESPECt qOd, Nd SOME REAd tHE BiBlE...
It is affected because extremists become more militant and not tolerant of christians and other religious peoples
Quakers (The Religious Society of Friends) has historically practiced Christianity, as they were founded on them. But they remain a very tolerant group and are open to any faith.
If the Romans persecuted Christians, then they weren't tolerant of all religions! The Roman policy during the development of the empire was to tolerate the religion of the subjugated peoples and to avoid giving offense where possible. Christianity became a notable exception to this policy for a number of reasons.Firstly, the Christians would not bow to the state-sanctioned gods and importantly they would not worship the emperor. Secondly, the Christians would not then attend the state-sanctioned feasts to the gods which they regarded as idolatrous. For these and other reasons they were regarded with suspicion and possibly as being subversive to the state although they were otherwise good citizens. Thus, the policy regarding 'religious tolerance' changed since this particular religion was also becoming more widespread and was also seen somewhat differently from other religions which were more inclusive.
There is no count of the Christians that were killed, however it was far, far fewer than Hollywood or popular conceptions would have you believe. Rome was tolerant of religious beliefs and the only time a person was executed for his/her beliefs was if they were using them to promote treason. There is no count of the Christians that were killed, however it was far, far fewer than Hollywood or popular conceptions would have you believe. Christians should be loving, caring, compassionate, and tolerant of other's foibles. They should also be willing to lead others to the same knowledge if the other is interested.
its tolerant
I was tolerant of the incessant fighting between my brothers and sisters until they ran into me.
