Hitler joined The German Workers' Party in 1919 and rose to leadership through his emotional and captivating speeches. He encouraged national pride, militarism and commitment to a racially 'pure' Germany. He condemned the Jews, exploiting antisemitic feelings that had prevailed Europe for centuries. He changed the name of the party to The National Socialist German Workers' Party, called for short, The Nazi Party. By the end of 1920, The Nazi Party had about 3,000 members. A year later Hitler became it's official leader, Fuhrer.

Adolf Hitler attempted to otherthrow The Beer Hall Putsch, but failed. Hitler was arrested. However, Hitler used the courtroom at his public trial as a Propaganda platform, ranting for hours against the Weimar government. By the end of the 24-day trial Hitler gained support for his courage to act. The right-wing presiding judges sympathized with Hitler and sentenced him only five years in prison. Hitler was released from prison after only one year.

While in prison Hitler wrote volume one of Mein Kampfwhich was published in 1925. After he was released from prison he resurrected The Nazi Party. By 1929 The Nazi Partyhad 108,000 members. Soon the SS, The Hitler Youth, The Student League and The Pupils' League were open to young Germans. The National Socialist Women's League allowed women to get involved as well.

In the election of 1932 The Nazi Party won 37% of the Reichstag seats.

After the first World War, as a result of the Versailles Treaty, Germany was in a state of economical, political and social crisis, many believed that by signing the treaty they "stuck a knife in the back of the German people" (this is the origin of the saying). In addition to many other things, one thing that the Allied Countries imposed was the stepping down of the German emperor and the establishment of a Demcratic government, this period of time was called The Weimar Republic. During this time Germany was, after a long time as a monarchy, a democracy. In January of 1933 after two governments were taken down by the opposition the German president Hindenburg gave the leadership over Germany to the Nazi Party and Hitler without an election as it was the next biggest political party. In about a month or two Hitler called for re-elections in which he and the Nazi Party got a lot more votes and therefore many more seats in the Reichstag (German Congress), with another little political party who supported the return of the German emperor Hitler had absoute majority in the Reichstag. In March of 1933 the Enabling Act was passed in the Reichstag, this act meant that the authority of the Reichstag was given to the Prime Minister (Hitler) as this was passed Hitler claimed that it did not and will not threaten the existence of the Reichstag, this was done after the death of the German president Hindenburg, and at which time Hitler deemed himself Fuhrer. In the following years, until 1939, Hitler applied his Nazi propaganda and policies in every part of the German life. In August of 1939 Hitler signed a pact with the Soviet dictator Stalin, despite the fact that the Nazi Ideology goes against Communism (and Democracy), called Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. This was of vital importance for the safety of the German military for a few days later in which time Hitler invaded Poland. With the invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939 broke out the Second World War. Within 3 weeks, September 21, Poland was under Nazi-German occupation and as ordered by Reinhard Heidrich in the flash message sent to the heads of the Eisatzgrupen (Special Actions unit of the SS) the establishment of the Jewish Ghettos of Poland. Later on June 22, 1941 Hitler commenced Operation Barbarossa, the Nazi codename for the invasion of the Soviet Union, and by that violating the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact that kept his army safe during the invasion of Poland.
