1. Detect any virus, trojan, worm, spyware, or other malware that is hidden on your computer. This is the most important and earliest thing you should do. Just make sure your computer is safe without implanted virus or affected files. You need to isolate the affected files with other data on your PC as soon as possible. Viruses, trojans, or other malware will absolutely slow down your computer and even crash the whole system.

  • Only enable legitimate software on your computer.
  • Use strong passwords to protect your privacy.
  • Still turn on the firewall.
  • Keep the system up- to- date.
  • Download files from trusted resources.

2. Remove any useless programs, applications, games in order to release more hard space for your slow computer. Too many programs, applications installed also will slow your computer down because they occupy much hard space and PC memory. Your system needs more time to respond every operation you have done. That is why you frequently encounter such phenomenon that your computer is deathly slow and never responds you.

Remove unneeded files from your computer. The unnecessary files and components on your hard drive is one of the main reasons for a slow PC for it consumes a large sum of spaces which were originally used for system running. There are several types of system files you can use to Windows Disk Cleanup utility to remove:

  • Temporary internet files
  • Downloaded program files, such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets
  • Files from the Recycle Bin
  • Windows temporary files, such as error reports
  • Optional Windows components that you don't use
  • Installed programs that you no longer use
  • Unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore

Temp files are created by the system itself, sometimes with the purpose to prevent system file damage when a program crashes suddenly. The accumulation of the temp files has the power to result in further stubborn system problems, including slow Windows XP, tons of obscure system pop-ups and sudden system shutdown. Totally removing temp files may fix slow Windows XP instantly and tune up the computer for better performance. How to remove temp files completely from your computer? It is recommended to enable a reliable disk cleaner on your computer which offers you professional level solutions to keep disk clean and safe.

3. Defragment or TRIM the system to improve slow computer speed. If you never defragment from the moment when you start using your computer, you would get a slow speed computer after a few of years. Every operating system has own its defrag function so that PC users can remove system fragment with it. Therefore, you can use defrag on your computer to free fix the slow computer.

The more files and programs you add to the system, the more slowly the computer runs. On mechanical drives, the closer to the far end the data gets stored, the slower it is accessed. Also, as files are created and deleted, this leaves gaps between files. Then when new files are created, they often get broken into multiple pieces and scattered into those gaps, making mechanical hard drives less efficient.

SSD hard drives also get slower with time, but for a different reason. An SSD drive comes with all its cells formatted. As the cells are deleted, they have to be formatted again before they can be reused. This process takes up time. Ideally, you'd have TRIM software running in the background to format the deleted cells. Then the SSD drive will be as fast as it was when it came from the factory.

If you need to speed up computer and defrag the fragmented files, you may consider using the built- in Disk Defragmenter.

4. Repair registry problems. Run a free registry scan to find out and repair registry errors on the slow computer. Many slow computer problems are related to registry. Too many invalid, missing and rubbish registry entries can affect the computer speed and slow it down. Your slow speed computer keeps freezing because of the registry errors. To be honest, registry errors is unavoidable because you have to install, uninstall applications, games, programs on your computer frequently. That will change and leave invalid registry entries sometimes damage registry keys. So you need to clean up the registry errors regularly. Free registry scanners can help you detect and repair those registry errors in just a few of minutes.

Once your computer has experienced registry problems, multiple system problems may begin to appear on your computer from time to time, including system startup failure, unexpected Blue Screen of Death errors, unwanted spyware attacks and sudden reduction of system performance. This is due to the fact that the Windows Registry serves as one of the critical part in the system used for storing crucial system settings.

Undesirable registry components, corrupt registry files and obscure registry errors are the main reasons for an invalid Windows registry. Once you have experienced an invalid Windows registry, it may bring about a list of further complicated system problems to your computer, including critical system file corruption, driver update failure, software instability and obscure system errors. To tune up overall system performance, you may need to fix registry problems.

5. Limit programs that run at system startup. Software manufacturers always try to set their components to run at Windows startup for recovering development costs. This can drastically decrease the computer performance and make Windows slow. To speed up system startup, you may consider limiting the programs run at system startup.

Of course, doing the above suggestions will only bring back the speed you had when you first bought your computer. You can, however, speed it up even more by overclocking your CPU (make it run faster than the stock speed). That does carry risk.

One solution is to save everything you really care about in cloud storage or CDs, then wipe the hard drive and install the operating system from scratch. Then only install the programs you use the most.

You will also need to install any security updates that are newer than the version of your operating system.

There are a number of ways to make your PC faster for free. You should first start with the obvious and simple things.

1. You should first try removing things you don't use, using the Programs and Features or Add/Remove programs icon in the Control Panel. There may be a lot of useless programs that start with your PC as well as unwanted toolbars. So the Control Panel is one of the first places to go for speeding up the computer.

2. You should also check your display settings and Advanced Performance Options (special effects). You can disable the themes and turn off most of the graphics enhancements like smooth scrolling, shell animations, etc. If setting the special effects to performance mode is too ugly, you could manually add some of the options you miss back, like stylized menus. In your display settings, you might want to see if your video card is detected or whether it is using a Windows generic driver. If it is using a generic driver, the video card might not be using its hardware acceleration. So in that case, you'd need to install the correct driver which can usually be obtained from the manufacturer as a download.

3. You can check your hardware options under system properties. If you go to the Hardware Manager, you can check to see if anything is flagged as not working and install whatever drivers you need to get rid of the flags. Then you should check your hard drives in there and see if there are any options on those, like enabling DMA or enabling write caching. You'd generally want to enable those.

4. In all of your browsers, you should check their plug-ins (or extensions) and remove or disable what you can that is unwanted or unfamiliar. If the browser locks up or won't let you uninstall certain plugins, that can be fixed elsewhere.

5. You should then run various malware programs. Most have free versions. Try to avoid the "free trials" and make sure you disable every program and tool bar they recommend. Here are some adware and malware removal programs to try:

Ad-Aware
AdwCleaner
HitmanPro 32-bit or 64-bit
Malware Bytes
Spybot Search and Destroy

6. You could dig around an look for unwanted files or use software to do so such as Ccleaner. That in itself won't speed things up, but will make defragmenting easier and reclaim lost space. Ccleaner does have the option of packing your browser indexes if you like to keep your tabs open between sessions. Otherwise you can have it to just delete your session data.

7. If you are tech savvy, you might want to use Autorunsto remove invalid or unwanted entries. You should ONLY delete those which are invalid (says "File not found") or unwanted. If in doubt, you can just uncheck them to disable them. Under Everything, you can scroll and see what is marked as File not found and just delete those. Highlight them and hit the delete key. Then examine under the Logon and Internet Explorer tabs and see if there is anything you know you don't want in there. You would likely do best to leave the items under the other tabs alone, unless you know they are malware. For instance, you can delete services if you know any are malware, but generally you should leave those alone. Boot Execute should generally be left alone other than to check to see there are only 1-2 entries, with one that should read "autocheck autochk *" that is listed as being under the "BootExecute" registry key. In rare cases where this key is damaged, you could right-click and go to "Jump to Entry." That will load the registry editor. Then you can double-click BootExecute and make sure the data field reads "autocheck autochk *" (no quotes) if it doesn't already. If you are using Vista or higher and don't have UAC disabled, you would need to right-click on the icon to start it in Administrator mode.

8. If you want to use a registry compactor NTREGOPTis a good one. Remember, if you are using Vista or higher and don't have UAC disabled, you would need to right-click on the icon to start it in Administrator mode.

9. You should defragment the computer. You go to My Computer or Computer and right click on the drive you want to defragment and go to Properties. Or, if you want a 3rd party program, Defragler is a good one.

10. There are additional things you can try. For instance, you might be able to change some of your CMOS settings to gain performance. So enter the CMOS according to the directions on the screen, pressing Delete or F1 as directed. Then inside, you should check the settings. For instance, if you know you are using a faster memory type than detected, you might be able to override that. If there is a block mode option and/or a DMA or UDMA option for the hard drive, you would want to enable those. If there is an option to disable inside lights you don't care about or disable the startup logo or EPA EnergyStar logo screen, you should disable those to save time. You can also disable any internal ports or devices you know you won't use to free up memory and device address space, and keep Windows from loading drivers for them. If your graphics are integrated to the motherboard, you might have an option to increase the shared memory (AGP aperture or similar name). If you have any Generation 3 PCIe cards installed, you should enable the Generation 3 setting if it is there, and you can increase the latency to the socket so the device can latch onto the bus for longer and do more work. On Windows XP and earlier, there is an advanced system setting in the System area of the control panel that you can disable (Allow Synchronous Commits or something) that might speed things up, and you should make sure the DMA options for the drives or the drive controller ports are set in the Control Panel.

There are several ways to make a computer run faster:

Uninstall unused programs and delete unnecessary files to free up space on your hard drive.

Run regular antivirus scans and remove any malware that may be slowing down your computer.

Keep your operating system and software up to date with the latest patches and updates.

Use disk cleanup tools to remove temporary files, system files, and other items that are no longer needed.

Disable startup programs that you don't need. You can use the Task Manager on Windows or the System Preferences on a Mac to do this.

Add more RAM to your computer, if possible. This can significantly improve performance, especially when running multiple applications at the same time.

Consider installing a solid-state drive (SSD) in place of a traditional hard drive. SSDs are faster and more reliable than traditional hard drives, and can significantly improve the speed of your computer.

Reduce the visual effects on your desktop. This can be done in the "System Properties" on a Windows computer, or in the "System Preferences" on a Mac.

Keep your desktop organized and reduce clutter. Having a clean and organized desktop can help reduce visual distractions and make it easier to find what you're looking for. My recommendations ¸„.-•~¹°”ˆ˜¨ 🎀 𝒽𝓉𝓉𝓅𝓈://𝓌𝓌𝓌.𝒹𝒾𝑔𝒾𝓈𝓉🍑𝓇𝑒𝟤𝟦.𝒸☯𝓂/𝓈𝒾𝑔𝓃𝓊𝓅/𝟦𝟩𝟤𝟦𝟣𝟨/ 🎀 ¨˜ˆ”°¹~•-.„¸
