PRICE: my first new car was a black 1948 Chevy convertible which cost $1800

including the optional AM radio and heater.

FEATURES: Standard 3speed+reverse was the only transmission choice. It had a vacuum assisted gear shift which occassionally dropped into neutral at high speed. The engine was a straight inline 6 designed for leaded gasoline. Rear wheel drive was the industry standard. No catalytic converter. Single exhaust.

POWER EQPT WAS NOT AVAILABLE: power brakes, steering, windows, door locks, air conditioning, ABS, positraction, and NO COMPUTER!

Ignition was provided by an ignition coil and breaker points. A single barrel carb - no fuel injection or ball joints.

Now, we are smart enough to heat seats, have automatics (where you don't have to drive stick shift) and lots of other great things! You can also have bluetooth in your car now, plus heated steering wheels, and you can even have phones built into your cars!
