Quantifying the "addictiveness" of a drug is difficult, because each person's brain chemistry is slightly different and the values therefore differ from one person to another. Suffice it to say that both are highly addictive. Of the two, nicotine is probably the sneakier.

What is more addicting alcohol or tobacco?

Tobacco is much, much more addictive than marijuana. The active ingredient in tobacco (nicotine) is physically addictive (meaning, there are physical withdrawal symptoms when you quit smoking). The active ingredient in marijuana (THC) is NOT physically addictive.Furthermore, many studies have shown that nicotine is at least as addictive, if not more addictive, than heroin. The same cannot be said of marijuana.

Why do people bcome addicted to tobacco and drugs?

Tobacco is addictive because it has nicotine in it, this nicotine attaches to your brain cells making them "happy", then your brain wants more because it get use to the nicotine. Other drugs have other things that make them highley addictive but the main reason is that whatevers in them attaches to your brain and hooks you on it.

Is nicotine the most addictive substance known to man?

Yes. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin, cocaine or any other drug. it is the most difficult drug to quit. Sustained remissions from nicotine are generally short-lived, with multiple relapses and infrequent remissions. It is responsible for more deaths (from chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, lung cancers and cardiovascular deaths) than any other drug, although alcohol related diseases come in second. Interestingly, cigarettes and alcohhol are legal, despite the risks and dangers they pose to society, whereas illicit drugs, though posing dangers, as well, precipitate far less morbidity and mortality than the drugs our society has legalized. Just grist for the mill, and food for thought.Opiates, in the form of heroin and other substances are almost as addictive as nicotine, but quit rates exceed those of nicotine, nevertheless. Interestingly, of all the opiate-based medications used in hospitals, in order to treat pain, only 1-2% of patients become addicted, as a result.
