It depends what you want to use it for.
You can take something like a needle and stroke it in one directions multiple times over a magnet ( You can use that needle as a compass pointing north with some other help)
Something else you can do, is take a long nail and twist some copper wire around it multiple times. If you then take each end of that copper wire and attach it to the respective ends on the battery it will create an electro magnet
