How and why do vinyls warp?

Answer:

Warped record albums

Sometimes warping occurs during packaging and delivery, when the manufacturer has not properly packaged the album for shipping. Sometimes it is a result of unsuitable environmental conditions such as storing albums close to a heat source. Placing a small, flat object, like a dime, on the top of the stylus chamber may provide enough weight to prevent the stylus from jumping. The long-term effects of the additional pressure on the vinyl and stylus is unknown, but this method has worked for me.
