Both ancient Greece and Rome had the same gods and goddesses, only with different names. Example, the ancient Greek god of the seas was Poseidon, while in ancient Rome, his name was Neptune. Also, ancient Greeks and Romans lived near water for food and water resources and trading routes. Lastly, ancient Greeks and Romans had very powerful armies, which helped them conquer many other civilizations.

Actually, the Roman civilization mostly consists of the Greek civilization. The Roman civilization is nos so uniqe as it is thought to be because most of it was created by assimilaing other civilizations' values such as the Etruscans (archs and domes), the Greeks (statues and columns) and the Eastern civilization (cults and fiestas). The Romans integrated all these customs and civil values into one and even improved it by studying Greeks scholars and their tracts.

They were quite different in social structure, customs and culture. The main thing they had in common was that they both had polytheistic religions. The Romans adopted four Greek deities and liked their gods to Greek gods and myths. The Roman elites were influenced by the Greeks. Their education was in both Latin and Greek because their educational structure was influenced by Greek educators. The pinnacle of their studies was a trip to Greece to study Greek rhetoric or philosophy. Roman rhetoric was influenced by the styles of the Greeks. The Romans adopted the main Greek schools of philosophy of their time: Stoicism and Epicureanism. Latin literature started with translations of Greek tragedies and comedies and early Latin literature was modelled on these. The Romans also adopted the Hellenistic style of the Greeks for sculpture. They also adopted and improved on Greek cranes and the ballista, a crossbow-like catapult. They adopted some of the Greek sports, but the Greek love for athletics did not really catch on. The Romans also adopted Greek medicine.

Ancient Rome and ancient Greece (specifically Athens) were similar in many ways. When the ancient Romans conquered Greece they were inspired by the Greek culture and transferred many aspects of it to their own. For example, the Roman gods were more or less identical to their Greek counterparts except with different names (Zeus became Jupiter, Athena became Juno etc.). Also the Romans copied and, in many cases, improved upon the Greek style of architecture. Also most Roman teachers and secretaries were Greek slaves.
