How are forceps used?

Forceps are usually held with thumb and index finger and used for grasping, manipulating, extracting, and, rarely, for transport of small objects
Forceps are used to grasps things. This may include splinters, bone, an embedded object or sterile dressings. Forceps are useful when engaging in the aseptic technique. This means that you do not touch the dressing you are applying. Nurses are often seen applying dressing packs using forceps. The locking type are sometimes used as clamps.

In other venues, forceps might commonly be called tweezers, clamps, or pliers.
