Each minor planet is given a name and number when its orbit is known. NOTE : I know a lot of people think Wiki Answers is a fake and is inaccurate sometimes, but this answer is the correct answer. I've researched and looked at school books and this is the correct answer, This may be even the best written accurate answer.

How many elements are named after solar planets?

Two are named for major planets: uranium (Uranus) and neptunium (Neptune). The element mercury is named for the Roman god of speed, as was the planet; but the element was not directly named for the planet. Two are named for minor planets: cerium (Ceres) and plutonium (Pluto). If the asteroid Pallas is promoted to minor planet status, then palladium will join that list.but the most common element named after a planet is uranium(uranus).

What are the names of the planets that haven't been named after classical gods?

In short - all the major planets save Earth are named for classic gods. Uranus was named for one of the Titans, which most would still include among the classical Greek/Roman gods, though some scholars might classify them separately as the precursors to the gods. The thousands of asteroids are sometimes referred to as 'minor planets'. And, while many are named after classical gods, many more are not.

Among the traditional 9 planets which planets are considered as dwarf planets?

The only planet in our solar system that went from a classification as major to a classification as dwarf is Pluto. Here is a list of ALL 13 known planets. The dwarf planets are in bold and underlined:MercuryVenusEarthMarsCeresJupiterSaturnUranusNeptunePlutoHaumeaMakemakeErisDwarf planets also fall under the category of minor planets, of which there are thousands in our solar system. As of 2017, the orbits of 734,274 minor planets were archived at the Minor Planet Center, 496,815 of which had received permanent numbers. The largest minor planet that is not considered to be a dwarf planet is Sedna.

Are dwarf planets and minor planets the samet hing?

Dwarf planets are celestial bodies that have enough mass to have a gravitational pull by the sun, but they are not large enough to be considered a regular planet. They are also too big to be satellites. Minor planets are in direct orbit with the sun. They are not dominant planets, and they are not comets. This qualifies all dwarf planets as minor planets. So, to answer your question, not exactly. All dwarf planets are minor planets. But not all minor planets are dwarf planets. Hope this helps you!!

How come there is all this trouble over Pluto being a planet or dwarf planet when they are all just planets any way?

Because for years it was thought that there were 9 planets, which included Pluto. But, in recent years it has been discovered that there are other, smaller, dwalf or minor planets which lay beyond the orbit of Pluto. Some of these dwalf planets are as big or even possibly bigger than Pluto. So, a decision had to be reached to either downgrade Pluto to the status of a dwalf or minor planet or include all of these other objects (and nobody knows precisely how many there are) into the main system of planets. If they were all included allthe minor planets into the major system of planets they would all need to be named, so the decision was taken to downgrade Pluto to simplify matters. So now there are only 8 major planets and many more, mostly un-named and undiscovered minor or dwalf planets.

Asteroids, some comets, and dwarf planets are classified as minor planets. Stars and galaxies are much larger than planets There are dwarf planets and these are Ceres Pluto and Eris.

Why are planets called major planets?

They are sometimes called "major planets" to distinguish them from the "minor planets" (the asteroids) and "dwarf planets" like Pluto.
