Firstly, let's be clear of what scientific farming methods are. They are:

1.Use of machines, such as combine harvester and tractors

2.Use of chemicals, such as pesticides and fertilizers

3.Improve species, such as breeding of better livestock and crops'

4.Improve water supplies, such as irrigation and drainage systems'

So, what harmful effect do these scientific farming methods bring?

-Pesticides

Pesticides are harmful. Some pesticides are left on crops. When people eat those crops, their health'll be affected.Pesticides kill both good insects and pest.It kills insects which kill pests as well and this increase the number of pests. On the other hand, resistance is developed in pests, more powerful pesticides is developed then and this will worsen the environment's quality .Pesticides causes water pollution also and kills living things in rivers.

-Fertilizers

Farmers always use more fertilizers than needed.Rainfall can wash excess fertilizers into the river and gives nutrients to water plant and algae, algae needs nutrients, water and OXYGEN to grow so when there're much nutrients(fertilizers),algae grow rapidly and use up oxygn in the water. All living things in rivers then die. This upsets the ecological system and and worsen quality of water.

-genetically-modified (GM) crops

GM crops are created by human beings. We are not sure whether it will make harmful effect to human beings so far also it may affect the ecosystem.

-the pay for extension of farmland and increase in farm yields

Semi-arid land has a very high evaporation rate. When excess water is used,it dissolves salt in soil and carry it out on the surface of soil. After the water evaporates, salt is left on surface of soil. The soil then becomes salty and reduces the production of farmland.Farmers reed cattles and sheep on semi-arid land. The livestock eat grass on farmland and the farmland loses protection from grass.Soil may be blown by wind and washed away by rain easily then. This leads to soil erosion.Farmers grow crops on marginal land may lead to soil degradation. Both soil erosion and soil degradation may leads to a less productive or even unproductive farmland.
