When an egg is fertilized by a sperm, it becomes a zygote. That zygote goes through cell division to become an embryo.

Sometimes, the zygote splits and becomes two separate organisms - they will be identical twins. If the zygote splits and separates multiple times, you can get triplets or even quadruplets. They will all be (more-or-less) genetically identical.

If two eggs are released during ovulation and each one is fertilized (by a separate sperm) then you will have fraternal (non-identical) twins. Again, if multiple eggs are released (for example, when a woman is undergoing fertility treatments) and each one is fertilized by a separate sperm, you can get triplets, quadruplets, etc. They will all be genetically different and can even be different sexes.

Identical twins occur when the fertilized egg, instead of splitting into two connected cells, splits into two separate cells. Non-identical or fraternal twins occur when the mother releases two eggs which are fertilised by two sperm and both implant.

non identical twins are made when occasionally during the woman's period she lets two eggs out at the same time, which are fertilised by two sperms to form non identical twins.

How many pairs of twins your there in the world?

10 million identical and 115 nonidentical.

Is there a word for twins who don't look alike?

Nonidentical twins Dizygotic twins (commonly known as fraternal twins, but also referred to as non-identical twins or biovular twins)

What is the Differences between identical and nonidentical twins?

Identical twins are born together, and look exactly alike.Nonidentical twins are born together, but do not look exactly alike.A good example of non identical would be boy and girl twins,

What are nonidentical twins?

Non-identical twins occur when the mother ovulates and two separate eggs are released and fertilised. This is different to identical twins, they occur when one original egg splits n two and develops in tandem. then yo have sex

Why are some twins identical and some not?

The reason why some twins are identical and some are not starts in utero. Identical twins occur when one egg is fertilized and it splits to create two embryos. Nonidentical twins come from different fertilized eggs.

Do most pregnancies start out as twins?

No, most pregnancies do not start out as twins. When the ovaries release two eggs and both are fertilized then will twins be born (fraternal/nonidentical twins). Or a fertilized egg may divide before implantation resulting in identical twins.

How do you get nonidentical twins?

Non-identical twins happen when two eggs are fertilized at the same time. This happens when the mother ovulates twice, so she has two separate eggs that can be fertilized and develop into fetuses.

What is the percentage of identical twins?

about 80% because most of the people i no are identical

What is another name for nonidentical twins?

dizygotic

What is the different between identical twins and franternal twins?

The DNA of identical twins and of clones is, apart from random, environmentally produced mutations, 100% identical. The only difference is that clones are produced on purpose through advanced bioengineering techniques while identical twins happen as an accident of nature. Identical twins are, in a sense, natural clones.

What is the purpose of creating identical DNA?

After fertilization of ovum by sperm, new cell is formed, witch go on dividing by mitosis to produce entire human being. There are all DNA identical or else immunity will go on killing nonidentical cells and animal cannot survive because animals own cell will kill themselves. Nonidentical cells produced accidentally are killed by immune system.
