Organic foods have to keep up with all of the same health and safety regulations as conventionally grown foods. To be certified organic, they have to apply with the USDA. The USDA then regulates them to make sure that in addition to normal safety rules, they are not using synthetic chemicals to grow or produce the food.

[1] Certified organic farming wannabes must meet the application standards of the USDA's National Organic Program. [2] Once these standards have been met, they must pass an inspection. [3] And they must pass inspections each and every year thereafter. [4] To do so at each and every level and stage, they must meet strict standards that apply to everything from prepping soil to marketing product. For example, they can't use commercial/conventional/synthetic 'cides and fertilizers. They can't use additives, genetically modified organisms, or hormones.

Organic products in the US would fall under the jurisdiction of the FDA and USDA if they are produced for public consumption. Although only the USDA certifies products as organic.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is the federal government agency that regulates organic farming.

Specifically, the USDA has an Agricultural Marketing Service. That service implemented a National Organic Office in 2002. It is through that office that farmers in the United States of America become certified as organic growers.

Who regulates organic farms?

All farms are organic and are overseen in America by the FDA as well as USDA. The restrictive sense of the term, as in supposedly "locally-sourced", "naturally grown" products, is not regulated and anyone may apply it to any product. Man-made chemicals are used in some part of the growth and cleaning cycle of all food products, so any claims otherwise are misleading.
