Medication can be used to minimise convulsive seizures but if one occurs the best cause of action is to help the casualty in to a position lying down where they can't harm themselves on anything and wait for the convulsions to subside. Monitor them closely. If the convulsions last for a period of more than 10 minutes, phone for emergency help. Most of the time, people will have medication to prevent the convulsions so they will have had them before so if they are able they may feel one coming on and be able to deal with it themselves.

∙ 14y agoYou cannot really stop a seizure from happening. People can take their medication and try to avoid the things that cause their seizures, which are different for different people. Once a seizure starts, there is nothing that can be done to stop it. You just have to let it run its course and make sure the person that is having the seizure is ok, and doesn't do themselves any unnecessary injury if they fall or bump into something. You also need to be there for them as they come out of the seizure, as they will not be too well for a while, maybe having a headache or feeling a bit disorientated. They will be ok soon though.
