In general, first cousins share a grandparent. Second cousins share a great grandparent, and so on. Work out the level by counting the words grand and great. So great-great-great-grandchild is level 4.
If the count is different for two people you are comparing, the cousin level you use is determined by the lesser count.
The removal level refers to the difference in generations. Count the words Great and Grand from both sides and subtract them. The difference is how many generations they are removed.
