French classes in primary school have ususally from 15-16 pupils to 30 or even one or two more. Under 15 classes may be pooled with the next class, giving a two year class for a teacher. A French village school often has the whole range of classes, but in rural and sparsely populated areas, children may have to move to the next village to attend the next class.

The average class is about 25-27 pupils/students in France. Usually 15 is the minimum requirement (under that classes are often merged in a two-level class) and 30/33 the upper limit.
